Windows 7: Display driver stopped responding and has recovered

The GPU on my netbook does this a lot when I let the screen turn off from idle. Turning back on sometimes, most of the time, brings up that message. Now if this was Windows XP, the whole computer would have crashed and bit the dirt with a BSOD.

I don't know if it's related, but every once in a while I get the following message every once in a while:



When I click on it, I'm told that I should back up my computer regularly.

That is simply caused by the Toshiba HDD alert tool, and would mean it is not getting the proper information from the HDD.
