New radeon hd4850 - windows 7 splash screen freezes

    I don't know Amazon's policy. Let them know your concerns ans see if you can return it. If not, call mfg and get rma#. They will ask questions to determine what problem could be before they give you number.

    I think the card may be defective.. This computer should recognize the card and automatically disable the onboard. I do not have another rig to test this in, so I will send it to amd for repair tomorrow.

    If you have anymore suggestions, feel free to reply. Thanks for all your help and quick responses throughout the day. I appreciate it.

    I got it working. I ran driver sweeper in safe mode and cleaned the ati drivers. I installed the card and the onboard graphics was disabled automatically. I was able to get pass the splash screen and install the ati driver. The card works great.

    Good to hear that you were successful. It really doesn't take much sometimes to have a bad initial installation.
