The system requirements for Maplestory aren't steep, but you still need DirectX support that you may not get with the generic VGA drivers.

Here is Intel's description of their (non-) support of Windows 7 on your chipset:

Graphics — Older Intel® graphics controllers and Microsoft Windows 7* operating system

You appear to have a Compaq Evo 510D. Which version?

Compaq Evo Desktop D510 845G - World Wide QuickSpecs

I wouldn't recommend buying upgrades for that kind of machine, although it could run Win7 if it had enough memory and an add-on graphics card.

Going back to XP is probably a good idea. HP should have all the drivers you'll need:

Compaq Evo D510 Convertible Minitower*-* Download drivers and software - HP Business Support Center

(not necessarily your model).

Probably not exactly.

If you have an external cable modem or DSL modem, the best connection to the PC is through an ethernet cable, which uses a connector similar to a modular telephone (larger, though). You'd need the NIC drivers for the ethernet port on the PC. (These have no relation to the external device, just the PC.)

If it uses a USB connection, you may need drivers specific to the particular modem.

Can you get help locally? It sounds like you need more than you're going to get online.

This issue along with the others you mentioned (colors messed up, etc) are the result of missing drivers. I believe there are links in this thread that would allow you to download the proper ethernet drivers (the driver that allows you to connect to the internet), so what I would do is this.

1. Find the driver specific to your hardware. I believe there are several links in this thread that point to the driver you need already.

2. Save it to some form of external media. A USB stick or external HD would be preferable but you can also burn it to a CD if necessary.

3. Format your hard drive and install XP.

4. Once XP is up and running, attach the USB stick/external HD or insert the CD with the driver depending on which backup method you chose.

5. Install the driver and you should have internet connectivity.

6. Once internet connectivity is established, visit Windows Update. When the page that has available updates loads, there should be an option for Hardware on the left hand side. It should contain most, if not all, of the remaining drivers you're missing.
