DirectX issue - setup has detected that one or more directx component

I'm having an issue where i can't reinstall directx from the latest redist on Win7 Pro x64.

When i goto run the setup i just get 'setup has detected that one or more directx component files in-use by an application' then i'm forced to exit the installer.

Can anyone help to resolve this?? Afraid i'm not very good with Win7 diagnostics yet

Have you tried to uninstall it and reinstall it?

Did you try to reboot the machine then try again?

Well i can't actually find out a way to uninstall so if someone can try pointing out how that would be great but yes, i've tried to reinstall, reboot etc. Each time i get the same message when trying to reinstall it.

Back when i last had directx issue, in XP there were tools to completely remove it to start again but can't seem to find any for Windiws 7

I don't think you can actually "uninstall" DirectX from Windows 7. There may be a hack or other nefarious ways but....

However you can do a System Restore to an earlier time before you did the current update, than try doing the update again using these files... DirectX End-User Runtime

    Let us know.
