NVIDIA 9500 GS freezes the PC

    Hi,
My problem with NVIDIA 9500 GS graphic card. When I turn on my PC, it freezes
when the desktop is shown; as a result, I have to turn it off from the power button.
Then turn it on again until it stops freezing.
So, according to the PC action center:

Address a problem with NVIDIA Graphics Driver

NVIDIA Graphics Driver has stopped working properly 15 times.
A driver update, if available, might prevent this problem from recurring.
There are several ways of locating and installing driver updates, but it is best to let Windows do this for you. Try the first step below, which describes the process. If it doesn't produce a driver update that solves the problem, then try the remaining steps in the order given.
I have already installed the latest driver, I hope I can get help to solve this issue.

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

You have this driver installed Correct?
If you look under Supported products tab on the page above the 9500 GS is listed.

    I did everything correctly

    Installation Instructions
1 Follow the instructions on the NVIDIA .com Web site driver download page to locate
the appropriate driver to download, based on your hardware and operating system.
2 Click the driver download link.
The license agreement dialog box appears.
3 Click Accept if you accept the terms of the agreement, then either open the file or save
the file to your PC and open it later.
4 Open the NVIDIA driver installation .EXE file to launch the NVIDIA InstallShield
    Wizard.
5 Follow the instructions in the NVIDIA InstallShield Wizard to complete the
    installation.

    Hi,

Only just joined, but after reading pages and pages of reports of NVidia drivers crashing, I figured Id better actually look at the manufacturers website (Asus) to see if they had any drivers, and lo and behold....drivers SPECIFIC to the en9500GT series of Asus cards. Id been battling away with the NVidia drivers, when there must be some small differences between (in my case) an Asus EN9500GT and the Nvidia generic 9500GT. Given that the GS is embedded (I think) Id suggest a closer look at the manufacturers website rather than NVidia's.

Anyway...Id suggest trying the manufacturer of your cards website first. Would have saved me days and days of crashes, reading and frustration. I was 'this' close to removing Win7!!!
Id as a matter of process ensure that you fully remove the old driver first, so uninstall the physx and the 3D Driver, then control panel and remove the adapter driver (check the delete option).
    Then boot into safe mode, delete C:\NVIDIA, C:\ program files\NVidia corporation and/or C:\NVidia, C:\programdata\NVIDIA
Finally go into c:\Windows\system32\Driver store\File repository and anything with NV_ (pay attention to the file names and .inf files as you can delete the RAID or NIC settings if your not careful!)
Then tun drive cleaner (guru3d.com) and select the NVIDIA display and Physx, analyse and clean.
Reboot into windows and install the manufacturers drivers and see how you go.

    Hope it helps

It's funny how people with these freezing problems forget to list the power supply's output numbers in their system specs.

It doesn't matter because I bought this computer "Pavilion" from HP and the card was fixed by HP company.

Thanks a lot.. that helped me! In addition, I installed the driver from device manager manually. And everything is okay now. Thanks a lot.
