ATI / Windows 7 Detects False Monitor

I have Windows 7 Home 64 bit installed on an ASUS G73JH With an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870. My problem... Whenever I start the monitor up, whether it be turn the laptop on, or just wake it from sleep it detects a false non-generic pnp monitor. I do not have any extra monitors, it is just my laptop. Can anyone help me find a solution to getting this fixed please?

Have you tried updating your card drivers? And the chipset drivers?

    Keep us posted and regards

I had an experience with this on an ATI HD 2xxx series card a while back. I don't know how it appeared, but the only way I "solved" it was to open CCC and disable the phantom monitor. To the best of my recollection, it did not reappear after disabling it in CCC.

When you click on the picture of the monitor and select Properties in CCC, what info does it give you about the phantom monitor?

EDIT: Just thought of something... Have you by chance hooked this pc to a television? I remember having a "remnant" monitor in CCC after hooking my pc (the one with the ATI HD 2xxx card) to a television once. I had connected it via the S-Vid out on the card. And again, to repeat myself, to the best of my recollection, I removed it by disabling it.

Doesn't sound like this is too much help, though.

I'll post back if I remember something or if I can recreate it (it was in Vista, though)

I'll get back to you with the properties info. when I re-create it. No, My laptop has never been connected to any other display device. Thank you for your help. I'll see what else I can do as well.
