It may not be anything wrong with the card at all. I have a an older dell dimension sitting in my shop with a 7600gt agp card that won't work in windows 7 no matter what I do.
Well, technically, there is something wrong with the card. :)

It is a card not supported by the OS. :)

But in all seriousness, doing a google search, I found this with regards to the 7600GT Card and Direct X:

Is Nvidia 7600 GT direct x 10 compatible? - Yahoo! Answers

While Wikipedia has the following entry:

Windows Aero - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I do not believe the Aero is Direct X 9 supportable... As there are mentions with performance issues with it on Legacy Direct X 9 cards. There is also an blog here where they think Win 7 Aero is leaning more towards Direct X 10.1 capable cards or at least, for performance.

Windows 7 Aero to take advantage of DirectX 10.1 ... where will this leave NVIDIA | ZDNet

Need a working AGP/GART driver in addition to a working video card driver (not too mention a supported DX 9 card) for Aero to work. Without a working AGP driver, the video card driver cannot install.
I think you mean a supported DX10 or better card. As his card showed DX9 available when he was in XP and XP only goes up to DX9.0c.
No I mean exactly what I said, without a working AGP driver (part of the chipset), the driver for the video card will not install. Doesn't matter whether the card is DX 9, 10 or 11. Just look up those with a nforce 3 AGP motherboard, doesn't matter what card they have as there is no working AGP driver for that chipset for Windows 7 and as a result the card won't work.

And DX9 cards work just fine with Aero as long as they have a working driver. I have an old 9800 Pro (and there is a working AGP driver for the chipset on that motherboard), and Aero works with it just fine.

I'm online right now with a laptop that was manufactured more than a year before DX10 was released and I've got full aero effects enabled

    I've got 2x Nvidia 6200 AGP cards 256mb + 512mb - both run Win7 Aero perfectly (on Socket A boards)

    Both Dx 9.0c

Isn't that processor very bad for windows 7?
