videos freeze, i think it's a graphics prob..

hi! I've a sony vgn-fz21e. sony says on its website the fz series is not compatible with Windows 7. maybe that's the prob, but it was installed successfully anyway.
when i play a media file on bsplayer, vlcplayer, windows media player, it stops, several times. the image and sound freezes, and after 15sec, starts again. on bsplayer the time even continues to run. i think it has to do with my nvidia software, since i eliminated the kaspersky and codecs options.
also, using the mouse, i click on programs, and it takes forever to open them, because the image just freezes.
i've a geforce 8400m gt. when i open system information it says "operating system: microsoft windows vista". maybe this is the prob. i tried to update. didn't run the installation system "the nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. setup will now exit". i've dwl from nvidia the 8400, 8500 gt, 8400m gt. nothing.
can you please tell me what can i do? which steps?
    thanks a lot!!..

    1) Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor
    2) How did you eliminate those?
    3) Did you update your Graphics Drivers? (see bottom of post)
    4) Can you tell us the rest of your system specs?
    5) Did you install Windows 7 as an update or clean install? I am guessing this is an older computer that came with Vista.
    6) Hit start, type cmd and right click on it, and choose run as admin. Then type sfc /scannow and tell us the results.

    what i've managed to do

after dwl W7 upgrade advisor the only red cross in my results was the nvidia geforce 8400m gt. it says not compatible with W7.

i've dwl the geforce 8400 for desktops, 8400m gt for laptops and also the 8500 gt, with no success with any of those.

i bought W7 home premium, installed 32bits, clean install.
my laptop has intel core 2 duo, T7250 @ 2.00GHz

results for sfc/scannow were, didn't find anything threatening the system (i'm translating from the portuguese).

and now, i'm lost! what does this mean?
    many, many!!! thanks!!!

Your graphics card is incompatible. Try installing the drivers in Vista compatibility mode, but it might not work at all.

You can also modify your .inf file using NVIDIA MobilityModder Download the lasted driver for your card from Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers Follow the directinons on the maodding site( the mod tool is at the bottom of the page) modify the driver then install.
I know this works because it has fixed several 8400m series cards.
