matrox dual head 2go analog editon

I am trying to get what i think they call "extended desktop" with 2 screens but but pc only has the onboard motherboard type braphics card with 1 vga output. I'd head the matro dualhead 2 go analog edition was capable of doing this so bought 1 second hand and hooked it up, had to download what software i thought was the right one for my system/unit and the result i got was just a cloned desktop (the same view on each) which can be achieved with a simple y lead. Has anyone tried this on windows 7 in paricular with one of these, and can anyone shed any light on it for me?

Right click on your desktop and go to screen resolution. Then under the multiple display menu, choose extend these displays.

It's actually telling me that there's no matrox hardware detected even though it's powered up and plugged into the vga port and it's giving out a signal to both screens. Matrox themselves state that the unit has to be used with the vga lead it ships with which I'm not doing because I got it from ebay and it came all by itself. Maybe that's the problem.

That could be it. Did you install drivers for it?

I did,I might try re-installing them. I'm not impressed by matrox's customer service so far though, I've emailed them about 3 times so far with no reply

Check on the Maxtor Powerdesk software and see if there is an option called Clone Mode. It sounds like yours is in Clone Mode.
Also run this tool to see if you system is compatible.

cheers Jim, yeah I've tried that tool and it reckons it is compatible. It does say it's in clone mode but it wont change.
I'm not using the vga lead it shipped with and they say you have to on the site for some reason.
This is becoming more aggro than it's worth tbh I got the second sceen for free off a friend and expected to be using it straight away. now it's cost me 50 notes for the s/h matrox and a vga lead and it still isn't working properley

It's also only showing 1 output where there are two, but guess this is because of clone mode
