    Max Resolution?

    Hi,
I know Windows XP and Windows 7 Build 7000 are different but, in XP i used to be able to have my res at the max my old laptop could handle which was 1024 X 768
Now in Windows 7 It has been grayed out so i cant change it and is set to 600 X 400. Is there a way of increasing this or is this due to the fact with the new Windows my laptop cant handle it...

    [specs]
    Documentation
    Inspiron 2600
    1006MHZ Pent 3
    640 Ram DDR1

    [/specs]

    Thanks all

Well im not sure what the graphics are. If you see my first post it has a link to the specs on the Dell website. Mine is the inspiron 2600. It isn't very clear (to me) what it is.

    EDIT:

Found the problem. When i install the video controller (Intel 830) it asks for a reboot, When i do that it seems the drivers get lost. Since Windows tries to install the drivers on boot again.Any ideas?

Ran the driver install in xp mode, it indtalled them fine. Wanted a reboot, then as usual seems to delete the drivers on reboot, and tried to search windows update again for the drivers. Shows in device manager as no driver present also. Im now at a loss unless there are some other ticks you can show me.

After the reboot, can you try a roleback the driver in Windows 7? If Windows 7 has a roleback feature.

I wonder if the unit is just to old for the OS.

Or the OS is seeing that driver it is installing as the best driver for the video. Anyway to get the OS to stop looking for the best driver?

Sorry, I am guessing here. Have not started running Windows 7 yet!

W7 does have the rollback - unfortunately, since it is the one removing the drivers, I am assuming that the rollback will to work as it is physically removing them.

Since those drivers are for XP only, I think that you are pretty much stuck....
