well defently not just that i was thanking him for information which seems to be the focal point here pretty much on a minor scale the 6870 is very close to the 5870 and i wouldnt doubt if there was a way to oc and perform like a 5870

these were benchmarks tested on a regular clocked card im sure later in the year or some point there will be modified cards available if people already havnt done it themselves

i currently know of one card clocked supposedly 50 % tweak or voltage tweak they called it and thats the asus 6870 im not sure how 13mhz will impact the strength of the card but im sure the clock can go way above 13 mhz which i oc'ed the hd5770 100mhz over so i would probally end up going with this card by the time the price drops i will probally be on my way to building a new rig again

I didn't mean for it to sound that way. And his post wasn't off target.

What I should have said was depending on the game, the card will either be close or clearly outmatched. And looking at Rage's review, the card barely keeps up with a 5850

And remember in the other thread I said I was thinking about getting one based on the price

Considering the price I'm still debating on whether to get one or not. It's still an upgrade over my 4890, and who knows when the better cards will be released, what the availability will be, and of course pricing??? So.....

yea i understand I kinda leaning in differnt directions right now cause i originally wanted that card based i was going to sell the current 5770 but instead the guy that wanted said he didnt want to pay for a card that has been used a while which i can understand so ...

Now im thinking should i save a few hundred and then drop enough to grab a 5870 cause i was even looking at the gtx480fermi but that would just be reckless
so if i did get that card i would be saving alot and that would be my xmas gift cause my wife and daughter is getting the rest hahaha

maybe this will help you out this is what my gpu runs like but i also got like 5 fans in and around the system too but i have seen most with close to the same temp structure

and even though the fan speed is 70% i can knock it back down and it will remain 45 c sometimes drops to 41c

Cool, thanx man,but i see yours is the 5700 series,is that the idle temperature?Whats the highest yours ever gone and are you happy with it,how does it handle games, i wanna play in HD,and have every thing on highest they can be...can the card handle it?Oh and i have 11 fans in my case one who is 25cm,on my gtx 285 the highest temp i got was 76c,so i dont want it hotter than that. But mainly i want to play EVERY THING on the best and highest possible.

Sorry about that. Sometimes we get a little side tracked

If you feel one of your threads is getting side tracked, gently nudge us in the right direction :)

As for your decision to go with a 5870, it is a good card and certainly powerful enough for today's games on those on the horizon.

To put things in perspective, my 4890 still performs beautifully, yeah it's not a DirectX 11 card, but I've yet to get any DX11 games. Currently playing Fallout New Vegas, just finished Dragon Age: Origins. No Issues.

As for idle and run temps, all I can say is my 4890 idles around 63ish, run temps around 90ish I guess.

Good luck on your choice, good card.
