Another thing to check is what temps your graphics card is running at while you are playing. I had been having similar issues (screen resetting while playing games) and it turned out that my GTX295 was running at 110c.

Heya and thanks for getting back to me with your feedback :) It was one of the first things that I checked when I was having problems with my graphics. I did a stress test and the max my temps got to were 80C, I don't think it's overheating. When I've had problems when I'm in game, the first thing I do is check my temperature, especially with LOTRO as that uses quite a lot of resources, but the temps never been more than 70C. I'm more used to ATI cards to be honest as I've always had a problem with Nvidia in the past but I decided to try the GTX460 card as there was a special offer on them at the time, so I'm not sure what the max temp a Nvidia card can go to! :)

Video cards are designed for the spec, pci-express, and not the underlying chipset.
The notion that x card works better or worse with y chipset is nothing more than urban myth. Even though there exists no evidence to support this claim, it's one that's made daily across the internet. nVidia cards work equally well on Intel chipsets, AMD chipsets and nVidia chipsets. The same is true for ATI.
This info isn't going to help you solve the issue, but at least you can rule that part out.
Thanks Fumz, I didn't think the actual card would cause conflict, I was more worried about the drivers. But as you've cleared it up then it's probably poor drivers for the 460 card atm. I've seen alot of people posting up similar issues with their cards, so if it's not the drivers then perhaps a whole load of faulty cards got through QC (if that is the correct term to use) by mistake and that's why so many people are having these issues. I have ordered an ATI card which hopefully will be with me sometime tomorrow and my husband is going to test the 460 card in his machine, if he has the same issues Overclockers have said that they would RMA the product and send us a replacement. So whatever happens my hubby gets a better graphics card :)

It would certainly not be the first time a card maker rolled out a bad card, and if you've found many users with the same inexplicable issues, then perhaps you should see if an RMA clears up the issue? Also, even though it's uncommon to have to do this with nVidia drivers, have you tried running Driver Sweeper in safe mode to clear out all pre-existing drivers; for both nVidia and/or ATI (if you previously had an ati in the machine?)

I always use driver sweeper before installing any new graphics driver :) I used to have ATI on an old system, then I got this card and had no problems what so ever on my old system. Then I built a new computer so that my son had an updated computer and put the Nvidia card in this system. Everything was fine for about a month and then suddenly I'm having major issues with the card. I've even installed the graphics what I had before the issues started. I'm certain it's the drivers, but I'm not ruling out that there's something wrong with the card, especially as I had no problems with it for about a month both on my old system and this system. Either that or there's something wrong with my computer, but apart from the problems I get randomly when playing games (mainly LOTRO, I have very little trouble with other games, although I have a had a few problems, but not as many as I've had with LOTRO) my computer is running stably now since I had help with resolving a BSOD and a faulty monitor so it'll be interesting to see if the ATI card makes any difference, if it doesn't then at least I've ruled out the graphics and try and find out what is really causing issues with my computer!

Got my ATI Radeon HD 6850 today and whilst I was using driver sweeper to remove all the Nvidia drivers off my computer I decided to check the Nvidia Chipset drivers for some reason. Don't know what made me do it but driver sweeper found a hell of a load of Nvidia Chipset drivers??? I have AMD 770 Chipset so why would there be Nvidia Chipset drivers on my machine? Is it possible that that's what was the cause of my problems? Or were they chipset drivers for the GPU? I'm a tad confused here so if someone could clarify why I had them on my computer I would really appreciate it thanks! :P
I haven't had a chance to test my computer to see if it's more stable, and my hubby is installing the GTX 460 card into his machine to test so will have to get back to you on the results :) I will say when I refreshed the window index thingy my graphics went from something like 6.9 to 7.7 - very impressed!!

The only way to get chipset drivers (different from gpu drivers) onto the machine is to install them. At some point that must have happened. Having said that, Windows 7 is very good at recognizing, installing and using the correct chipset drivers... even if you swap chipsets, which in the past required an OS re-install, 7 just handles no sweat... so it's possible that this is/was your issue, but I'm not 100% convinced.
Thanks for the info Fumz :) Well I haven't changed chipsets or anything so I have no idea how the heck they got onto my machine lol. I guess I'll never know!!!! I will update in a couple of days time and let you know how both my hubby gets on with the GTX460 in his machine and how my machine is doing with the ATI HD6850 installed in mine.
Thanks again for the help, I just hope that my issue has been resolved as I've uninstalled all the chipset drivers and anything related to Nvidia, I did another driver sweeper after installing my ATI card just to make sure there was no Nvidia remnants left and it picked nothing up, so I have my fingers crossed :)

Just a little update, in the end I had to do a complete reinstall because for some reason even after using driver sweeper and it stating that there were no Nvidia drivers on my computer I still found some left on after installing the ATI.
My husband is very happy with the Nvidia Graphics card and hasn't had a problem with the drivers or the card itself which I'm very pleased about. I've also had no problems with my ATI card, the drivers or playing LOTRO, which is another thing that I'm very pleased about.
Sadly, the bsods that I have been experiencing came back which were caused by the G15 keyboard drivers, (at least I think they are) as my hard drive is about to die on me. It's been corrupting games where I have to uninstall them and reinstall them (has happened about 3-4 times now) I've also had a grinding, crunching noise coming from my hard drive from occassion with some warning message about an unusable part on my D drive. I phoned Novatech (where I bought the drive from) and they said it's sounding like the hard drive is on its way out as the drive shouldn't be making these noises and causing me to have problems with corrupted files and games. So it's going to take around 2 weeks for them to test the hard drive and replace it. I can't be without a hard drive for a couple of weeks so I'm waiting for a new hard drive to arrive tomorrow where I'll be reinstalling the G15 keyboard to see if I still have the same issue with the drivers. I've found a few links from the logitech support site with people having the same issues as I was with the drivers. There are a few things that I can do to try and stop the crashes which hopefully will work for me as I don't like the keyboard I'm using atm :P
