    ATI drivers not working- Help!

I just installed windows 7 a few days ago. Here is my system info:

    System Information

    System Manufacturer: MSI
    System Model: MS-7236
    BIOS: Default System BIOS
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
    Memory: 4096MB RAM
    Available OS Memory: 2688MB RAM
Page File: 847MB used, 4525MB available
    Windows Dir: C:\Windows
    DirectX Version: DirectX 11
    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
    DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
    DxDiag Version: 6.01.7100.0000 32bit Unicode

graphics card: ATi radeon 3870x2 512mb

So here is the problem. I go to install the drivers and i reboot, yes i did everything correctly. even tryed vista drivers. I try to open up ATI control panel which is showing that its there and i get an error message. I goto the directx tool and its showing nothing for my display.. which is very odd? It shows my card in device manager. Somehow i think my card and the drivers are not connecting. Ive tryed to clean install the drivers probably 10 different times and nothing has worked. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

And this is the error message:

Hi gesus,Yes, I have 2x 3870 cards crossfired and I am not happy with them at the moment,Aero keeps knocking off and when I play a movie the quality is very poor to say the least,I have done all the driver installs still it is not right,so I am beginning to think it is the the 3870s that 7 doesn't like.I am still working on trying to fix the problem and if I find anything I will post it ,I was just thinking, with a name like yours, I thought that you might have had a bit more clout, to fix this problem.

    Hi dude,

    I. Windows 7 issue
to save you all the hustle and correct me if im wrong:

    You have
    1. Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7100) (7100.winmain_win7rc.090421-1700)
    2. graphics card: ATi radeon 3870x2 512mb (Crossfire i assume)
    Result:
Crossfire doesent work with RC 7100 "period"

99% of the time you have the second card with "code 10" (device cannot start) and not recognized. The best you can do is install one of the cards and run on it and of course you performance will be nerfed.
It will look something like this:
    http://i39.tinypic.com/28ldhq9.jpg
Ive tried most drives as well as most of the other users and:
    Microsoft's Driver.......Fail
    From ATI site: 9.4.....Fail
    From ATI site: 9.3.....Fail
Alienware CD.......Fail (thats the M17 lappy vista x64 driver)
    ATI 9.4 + Mobil Mod..Fail
E-wrecked's Driver.....Fail (thats a cool dude who mods drivers incl resolutions and stuff)
    Newest beta ATI 9.5 Win7 Driver....Fail

    Suggestion:
    1. Wait for fix work with 1 card
    or
    2. Install 7077 if you want WIN7 - its very fast and smooth and you can run most drivers no problem
    or
    3. Go Vista x64

the Crossfire and RC is an issue that is appearing to everyone i talked to and read about. So far ive counted around 20 various reports of the same error and 0 success. Its not only my personal opinion.

    II. Vista issue
in the I. just wanted to clear that RC and Crossfire doesent work at the moment. Now in order not to get flamed that im badly missing the point here is what you can do else if its not RC-only problem.
My advice will be to do a clean drivers install, this is how its done lege artis:
REMOVE ALL REMAINS OF YOUR CURRENT ATI DRIVER/SOFTWARE
Here's a simple method to clean install ATI Drivers.
    Simple procedure. Check it out.

    1) Open Device Manager and Uninstall Old Display Adapter Drivers, also check the box "Delete the driver software for this device" when prompted to uninstall the display drivers.

    2) Open Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and remove the ATI Technologies Software Suite - device manager may have done so, but double check.

    3) Reboot, and tap F8 like nutzo on boot to enable Safe Mode option

    4) From Safe Mode admin account, check to see VGA Graphics adapter properly installed.. if so see step 5. If not, repeat step 1.

    5) Run Driver Sweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ and check the ATI Display box, then Analyze & Clean..I usually do it a 2nd time just cause. There should only be one entry after you run it the 2nd time, and it's a registry entry. Ignore that.

    6) Reboot - Check to see that Standard VGA Appears in Device Manager - It's ok if Vista reports they're not functioning properly. If VGA appears, move to step 7 and if not, move to step 3.

    7) Now, unzip the file package you downloaded.. run setup.exe under the main Driver Folder and install as "Custom" making sure the CCC is set to install, and also the Video Driver is recognized and will install. I disabled WoW and Cat Registration on my install..no need for the bloatware.

    8) Should install clean, and smoothe..and when finished prompt you to reboot. *ta duh*
    (credits to E-Wrecked)
I really hope this help you mate. Ive been using nvidia for 10 years and im really sad i switched to ATI.
    Good luck

I am having this exact same issue. I tried to install Vista and Windows 7(both 32-bit only) and the exact same error message kept popping up. I am doing this on a rather old machine:

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
    2 GB RAM
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    ATI HD 3850 512 MB GDDR3 AGP

I tried installing the (really)old chipset drivers, but it caused the computer to BSoD constantly. I tried installing the drivers that came with the video card, but those failed. I tried installing the 9.5 Hotfix drivers, but those failed.

I have installed XP again and everything is working. I have installed the video drivers on this machine before while Vista was running. I am unsure of what has changed, but I want to know. I know I am using a rather old machine, but the video card drivers should be working.

Hi, I fixed all my graphics problems when I discovered, that
Asus Gamer was causing all my problems, when I uninstalled it
everything was rosie in the garden, so if you have it installed you know
    what to do.

I have this problem with my T500 IBM on Windows 7 (64 Bit)

Any resolution? It appears the ATI drivers are getting confused with my graphics card and the integrated motherboard...

Asus Gamer is video recording software, correct? I know that was not installed in my machine, so I am still looking for a solution. Perhaps this fixed the OP's problem.

Please excuse the double post, but I wanted to let people know how my issue was "resolved". There might be some people who are not aware, but nVidia decided to stop supporting their customers. As such, nForce2 and nForce3 will not work properly with Vista.

    1. If you have a dual core processor with either of these chipsets, you either have to:

    2. Disable one of the processor cores.

    3. Revert to a single core processor(which will not work with the HD 3800+ AGP cards)

    4. Use an nVidia card and install the XP GART drivers(which may not work)

    5. Revert back to XP and deal with it.

IF you happen to know of any drivers that will allow me to use both cores on my processor and run my video card, please post it here.

Please excuse my ignorance but I don't believe a dual core processor was designed for either of those chipsets. They would be socket 7 and as far as I know there are no dual core socket 7 processors. FAIL please try again.

    Also please stay on topic...
