    Sli upgrade

Hey guys I'm new to the forum here and was looking for some advice on an upgrade. I'm looking to upgrade to Nvidia 3D Vision soon but im not sure how much power that will take to run well. Right now I have an older Gateway FX, but I have done a few things. It has a Q8200 quad core, 6GB DDR2, 450 watt, Evga GTS 450 SC, 1tb HDDx2, 2tb HDDx1, an Antec P180 Case, and an Acer H5360 Projector.

I was thinking of getting a new motherboard, power supply, another video card for sli, the 3D vision set

    Motherboard
Buy the ASUS P5N-D nForce 750i SLI Motherboard at TigerDirect.ca
    Power Supply
Corsair TX 650W Power Supply w/ 120mm Fan at Memory Express Computers
    Video Card
eVGA GeForce GTS 450 SuperClocked 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E w/ Dual DVI, HDMI at Memory Express Computers
    3D Vision + Spare Glasses
3D Glasses in Canada at Memory Express

I am hoping to get some of this on sale on boxing day here in Canada if I go through with it.

650W will be just enough to run that, I would go for 700W or 750W if you can.

Hello there, welcome to the forums! i would recommend a little higher wattage PSU with a single +12V rail and high amperage on it!

Take a look at this PSU

More than enough power if you're looking to upgrade video cards in the near future or any other upgrades, and it has 70A on the single +12V rail :)

    An alternative:

Stay with your present motherboard, and go with a single GTX460. The 1GB version would cost roughly the same as a new MB plus a new GTS250.

The performance might not be quite as good as a pair of GTS250s, but you'd avoid the potential issues with SLI.

The P5N-D is also nearly three years old. Upgrading to technology that old seems a little weird. (That's not the same as saying that it wouldn't work.)

I own a P5N-D and it's a good board but I wouldn't consider it as an upgrade worth doing like stated above it's 3 years old and I can't wait to upgrade it.
I would spend the cash on upgrading my PSU and graphics card instead. Till you could afford to go to an i5 or i7 system.JMO
