    Hmm honestly, I just ran the nvidia drivers from nvidia's website and everything got updated. I didnt uninstall a thing. I think the way it works is if you pull a driver from MS its just a hold me over driver till you get something more up to date from the manufacturer. I could be wrong about that though.

    Thanks, digitalrurouni. It's just that I read somewhere that it was important to uninstall old drivers first. So that's what I did and it required a reboot. But, on reboot, the first thing that happened was Windows reinstalling the same drivers it had just uninstalled! So I thought, bugger it, and ran the new driver package over the top of it. All is fine and Device Manager shows the new driver as well as the option to 'roll back' to the old. Thanks to all. I've said it before and I'll say it again - there's some really helpful folk on this site.
