    GTX 460 1 GB or HD 6850?

Which video card is faster, GTX 460 1 GB or HD 6850?

    Which overclocks better?

I've seen some benchmarks and it's mixed results.

The HD 6850 is around ~5% faster in most cases (according to techpowerup's performance chart).

    Which one overclocks better?

I have absolutely no idea, both GPUs have good offerings built for overclocking.

The GTX 460 has the MSI one with the Hawk aftermarket cooling, which is said to be pretty bad ass.

The HD 6850 has the ASUS one with the DirectCU cooler and unlocked voltage.

I'd go for a HD 6850 to be honest, it's cheaper, has some very good offerings for overclocking and it's faster.

The GTX 460 1GB might be better in heavy AA/Tessellated situations though.

Hmm I didn't know you lived in Canada.

If those are your only options, go for the HD 6850.

Have you considered ordering from NCIX.com?

actually i'm not getting the card. I'm helping my friend decide on the card. He's on a budget but it's pretty much undecided. So the cheaper the better.

Based on the review from techpowerup, i would suggest the HD 6850 over the GTX 460.

If you have no allegiance I would probably go with the AMD 6850.
But for me Nvidia has never let me down so I would go with the GTX460
    .
It also depends on the board if he might be planning on Crossfire eventually or SLI that might be something to look into ahead of time.

Actually this Gigabyte HD 6850 has proven to be overclockable to 1 GHz with Voltage unlocked.
And it has the Windforce Dual Fan Cooler.

my friend has a prebuilt computer. This is most likely his last upgrade for his prebuilt so his mobo doesn't support crossfire and stuff. Also is the OCed GTX 460 gonna be faster the the HD 6850 I linked?

an OC'd GTX 460 can be faster, but its a bit of luck, but a GTX 460 if you can hit close to GTX 560 clocks, your now in the GTX 470 range, and will smoke an HD6850, now this is possible because the GTX460 and GTX560 are identical GPU's just the code name was changed and the GF104 was fully unlocked, but don't mistake it, the GTX 560 is running a GF104 relabled as GF114, because they unlocked all the shaders that simple. Now the other thing is voltage, most GTX 460's ship with software voltage control already, but your gonna want something custom from a good brand, as the refrance cooler won't cope with it, now if you get a good GTX 460 with custom cooling yes, if you go refrance its anyones guess.
