IMHO..... I think you should save up for a while

I understand you want to upgrade it but from reading these post.

You are just due for a new system period ,It's not worth upgrading if you can only support 2 gbs of ram

I would start off by maybe looking into decent Cpu, MoBo's and ram then off to a decent PSU then you can select a decent Vidcard as well

If you want to go real cheap use the case but i would go ahead and dump that too

with new hardware comes new cooling i could bet you you're bottom dollar that case is no good for cooling

So with that being said even though i left out alot of details don't rush anything just save be patient you will get further then investing in something that isn't worth it .

    Thanks for your reply,
But am not longer able to get the RAM upgrades because my weak power supply.
I have to upgrade that first,
    Because I originally just wanted a 9500GT,
But I realized that my power supply cannot handle it.
I don't want to risk anything so I went on Newegg.com and found these two power supply, but I don't know which one to get.

I could buy either one of these two.
But which one should I get?
    Rosewill 350W - Newegg.com - Rosewill RV350 350W ATX 1.3 Power Supply

    Rosewill Stallion 450W - Newegg.com - Rosewill Stallion Series RD450-2-SB 450W ATX V2.2 Power Supply
I doubt that the PSU would limit your RAM at all. The extra power needed for 2GB would be negligible.

I've never bought much of the Rosewill stuff, which is a Newegg house brand, but I'd suggest this alternative:

    Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

(Antec Earthwatts 380). While its a 380W PSU, it is rated at 17A/15A on its two +12V lines. The 450W Rosewill is rated 14A/16A. It has the same price (including free shipping) as the Rosewill 450.
    Great find!
The thing is that it is lower than the Rosewill psu.
But am with you with this one.
Rosewill seems like a shady company.
The Antec power unit has better reviews.

You think it could power the 9500GT and to 2GB's of RAM with a 380w psu?
I could possibly get these sticks.
    Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-5400PHU2-2GBNT

    I know man,
In one more year and I'll be out of high school and I need to start saving up for a car and a laptop.

I just really want to upgrade this computer.

But after I upgrade this computer,
Am off to saving all my money for a future gaming rig.
But thanks for looking out man.
I am sorry for my stubbornness

    I suggest these instead:

    2GB kit (1GBx2), 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300 upgrades for HP - Compaq Presario SR5210NX Desktop/PC, CT736085 from Crucial.com

They're $40, but have free shipping, so they're $4 more expensive than the Gskill. I recommend Crucial to get the best compatibility.

The Antec PSU is ample for your system plus a 9500GT:

    EVGA | Products 9 Series Family&sw=

(eVGA recommends 350W with at least 18A at +12V. The Antec is rated at a total of 32A at +12V. It's better than some cheap "550W" supplies.)

Let me add to the chorus: don't spend a lot of money trying to upgrade this system. Increasing the RAM is probably the best thing you can do, although it may not help much if you're trying to play games on the machine.

Before you decide on your upgrades check here for your PSU needs. Remeber it's not so much the wattage but the volts on the +12V rail(s) https://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...ead-first.html

    Of course not mate,
All am going to get for this computer is RAM, a new power supply, and the graphics card.

Am really interested into getting this psu
    Newegg.com - Antec EarthWatts Green EA-380D Green 380W Continuous power ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

I just can't wait until I upgrade my computer.

Am wondering if I can play Resident Evil 5 after I do the upgrades?

    I can't say I have,
Is it any better than EVGA 9500GT?

9500 GT is quite an old card by nowaday's standards.. it works but I think the 430 is not far away in price and has higher speed and Windows 7 abilities (DX11 and such)

A GT 220, Radeon HD 5570, or GT 430 would all beat the 9500 GT in terms of performance and none require all that much of a power supply.

Here are your motherboard specificatiocs: Motherboard Specifications, 945GCT-HM (Livermore8) Compaq Presario SR5210NX Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (Canada - English)

If you want to upgrade anything, upgrade your processor. And then get a GT430 or a HD5670. Oh and I forgot RAM.

Otherwise save up for a new build (Athlon quad cores are only £60/$90!!!)

And I thought a 9500GT was an great card.
I think I should just go with the GT 430 instead.
Because it's in my budget so it's awesome!

    GT 430 it shall be!

Which one should I go with?
    It's weird because there's two,
One is from ASUS and the other one is from EVGA.
    Does the brand matter?
I kinda prefer EVGA but am not sure if the ASUS is better.

    I got both here:
    EVGA - Newegg.com - EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1435-LR GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Video Card

    ASUS - Newegg.com - ASUS ENGT430/DI/1GD3(LP) GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

    All in good time,
I will begin building gaming rigs after I get a job fixing computers.

    I might get one soon!
