    Intel 915GM Driver Installation Problems

    Okay,

I have a Gateway CX2610 laptop that I just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit, sadly it crashed and my partition was corrupted so I had to re-install. I do not care about Aero, I am aware that no hacks work on this chipset. All I want is nice 1280x768 support. It was working in my first installation also. I have downloaded the drivers from the Microsoft Update Catalog and now I can't get it to work. This went fine the first time also. Once I extract the cabinet I have the INF file and everything. After trying to let Windows scan for it and getting repeated "No driver found" messages I tried manually selecting > Have Disk and choosing the driver. this yields a successful install message, but at first when viewing the device properties I get this:

    Code:
    This device is working properly.

The drivers for this device will be uninstalled when the machine is restarted. Any changes you make to this device will not be preserved.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.
Then after about a minute, a warning icon appears next to it and it changes to this:

    Code:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

The drivers for this device will be uninstalled when the machine is restarted. Any changes you make to this device will not be preserved.

You need to restart your computer before the changes you made to this device will take effect.
And sure enough, after a restart, I get nice old 800x600 crappy res again. Why is this?

Shouldn't rely on Microsoft's catalog of drivers, you never know if they are the most recent or properly identified and sorted.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...=2032&lang=eng based on your latpop's spec, this is the driver from Intel for your notebook with Win 7 32bit. Give it a try. Make sure you un-install the current driver and reboot before installing the new driver.

Here are all the drivers from Gateway for your laptop.

    Gateway Support - Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / CX Series / CX2610

There are two video drivers listed. Appears only to be a slight difference. I'd try the top listed first.
Try one if it works use it. If not try the other.

I'm using an Intel 915 display chipset on my tablet PC, and (AFAIK) the latest drivers are the ones I have -- v6.14.10.4764 1/13/2007. They work fine, they just don't handle Aero -- known limitation of this chipset.

    Got the drivers from Intel.

Oh Mark you're my hero!!! I should've known the version as weird after hunting down v6.14.10.4764 I got it to work perfectly. I am soooooo grateful!!!

I also should've mentioned to the first two posters, I already tried the Gateway and Intel drivers, neither worked.

waqas7: You have to go to the Intel site and search for drivers. You will need the legacy XP drivers for that chipset -- there are NO Win7 drivers for it. Last time I looked in the Microsoft Update Catalog, their drivers were considerably older than the Intel drivers.
