Why should I upgrade my graphics card drivers?

I was wondering really whats the point in updating your graphic card drivers. What does an updated driver improve when you update the drivers of your current graphics card? Im just trying to see whats the point in me doing it and what does it improve when it comes to games? Does it improve the way your card handles the graphics.

You can check the release notes on the driver you plan to install, they usually detail what is included and any performance gains you will receive. The video card manufacturers are always working with game developers to maximize hardware, as a result, you may notice that certain games are listed with the driver release. Those games are generally new/popular and will achieve better performance with new drivers.

On the other hand (cliche), some people don't really benefit from new drivers and the don't like it when new drivers install useless software.

conclusion: If I were you I would read the release notes for the driver you are choosing. Check to see if any games you play are mentioned in the release. Also check to see if it says anything about fixing general issues or increasing performance. Upgrade if you see any of that stuff.

p.s. create a system restore point before installing new drivers so you can roll back your system if you want to. You can find that information here: System Restore Point - Create

    Hi,

Generally speaking, updated drivers deliver better functionality and improved performance. For the most part, you certainly want to upgrade your drivers unless you have a very specific reason for not wanting to do so.

If you are running a fairly new card, updating might very well be worth it....most new cards get about a 20% or so improvement with new drivers, over time...on the flip side if you have a older card the new drivers might hurt your performance......
