Windows 7: Catalyst Control Center Sabotage

Catalyst Control Center Sabotage

Hello

I downloaded a driver for my Radeon HD 4800 on my 64 bit Win7 Optiplex 745 computer to run a program. after downloading it, the program ran slowly, so I decided to get the CCC and overdrive my graphics card. I don't know what the CCC did, (I was unsuccesful at overdriving) but now my computer does a heat-shutdown, where the screen turns black or a pattern of colors, and becomes unresponsive. it has nothing to do with overheating, and even though I did a system restore for getting rid of the CCC because it would die berfore I couldn uninstall didn't help.

So now, I have an over-sensitive Graphics card, and a broken computer. Any help would be nice.

Did you use the auto-tune function? At best it's useless, at worst it's dangerous. I had a play with it and it and pushed my core GPU clock from to 625mhz to 755mhz which it considered 'safe'

Your best bet would be to boot into safe mode, uninstall the drivers from within device manager and then run driversweeper to clean all ATI entries/drivers. Driversweeper must be 'run as admin'

Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

Reboot normally and then re-install the Catalyst 9.6 drivers.

I'm getting closer to fixing it.

The system restore did do it's job, and actually, my graphics card is fine now. I just have no drivers. I went to try to install a driver, and the graphics card shutdown again though. It seems it doesn't want to get it's driver back.

I'll do driver sweeper now.

Did you try to install the latest catalyst for windows 7? And also make sure you have sufficient airflow inside your PC if you wish to overclock your videocard. Good luck!

I am absolutely sure. My case is open, and I have a 12" fan blowing on the inside.

Radeon 4800 what? 4830, 4850 or 4870? In any case did you change the power supply in that Optiplex when you added the card? Reason for asking,

OptiPlex 745 Desktop Product Details

Seeing as you say 4800, you have to have the mini tower version or the card wouldn't fit in the case without the side/top off. Biggest problem is the 305W stock power supply, somehow I doubt it is enough for anything from the 4800 series.

I have a feeling that what may be happening when you install the drivers is that the card then starts working the way it should (proper 2D and 3D clocks) and not doing so with the reference drivers in Windows, and once this happens that power supply isn't providing enough power.

It is just a 4800. I have a power supply, but that is not the problem. nothing to do with the hardware is the problem. Believe me. I used to think of myself as a computer whiz, but, I guess not

So no, your feeling is wrong. sorry to say. but thanks for helping.

UPDATE: When I tried to uninstall a driver, none showed up. I'm going to try one last time to install a driver, and see if I crash.

I would try to download the newest ones from amds site just to see if it was a corrupt download and install them with Admin rights by right clicking the installer and select the run as admin, also make sure you have all the current motherboard drivers too.
