LCD Loses Signal but CRT Finds It

    Hi All,

Just upgraded my system to Win7 Pro, with new mobo, cpu & ram.

During final installation of windows the monitor kept losing signal. If I unplugged LCD from graphics card, and plugged in an old CRT, the picture was there.

After a minute I could unplug the CRT and put the LCD back on and it would work.

This happens when changing user, booting up (at Window’s login page) and often when installing software.

The graphics card was fine in XP, this has only happened since installing Win7, which was yesterday..

I have turned off any sleep and power saving settings in Windows. I have the latest Nvidia drivers for my GTX275.

    Grateful for any help,

    Ape

Can you boot into safe mode (F8)? At a guess, your graphics adapter is et to a mode that your LCD does not support. (CRTs have limitations, but multisync ones can be quite flexible.) If it boots into safe mode, change the display settings to supported ones (60 Hz refresh).

    Thanks bobkn,

    I will try this tonight.

I can use the LCD, but only intermittently. I checked the settings when the LCD was and it was on 70Hz (or maybe 75) and couldn't be changed.

I also checked the settings when the CRT was displayed and it was set to 60Hz.

The issue often goes like this.

    All ok
    Change user or other event
    Display goes blank
    Signal Lost
    Unplug LCD
    Plug in CRT
    Signal is there
    Unplug CRT
    Plug in LCD
Signal is there too, for a while, until the next event.

I left PC on last night, all night and LCD was still on ok this morning. It seems to be when Windows re-evaluates the display, I ignorantly guess.
