See theres nothing much one can do about dwm resource contention other than cutting back on the special effects. I think the X3100 has a max shared memory of 384 mb, thats it. As long as the video doesnt slow down perceptibly in ordinary tasks, it shouldnt matter.

Does it happen randomly or only when running particular apps?

And does all such freeze/slowdowns have a corresponding dwm error? I mean have you timed it? It could also be a driver/software conflict. Try running a clean boot process, may help identify a troublesome driver.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Yes and we are trying to find the reasons for it. Dwm error mean the video card is being stressed for which you have already cut down on visual effects, also you have sufficient RAM which is not being stretched. However, the freezes occur randomly and you are also not sure whether every freeze has a corresponding dwm entry. So the freezes could be caused by conflicts for which I advised a clean boot procedure.

Theres nothing you can do about gpu performance on an integrated card on a laptop, so stop worrying about that. As I already said earlier, switch to a classic theme (non-aero) for a while and see if the problem persists.
