[Conclusion reached] New HD 5770 in, PC does not boot
Note: if you've found this thread searching for a fix, none was found. We came to the conclusion that the setup was incompatible.
Hi everyone,
We've just been upgrading a PC with a new power supply and graphics card. We went with a Thermaltake TR2 700W, and a Gigabyte Radeon HD 5770, respectively.
Upgrading one part at a time, I put in the new PSU and connected everything up - PC boots up, no problem.
However, upon switching out the GFX card, with the new one in the PC doesn't boot. It seems to be running normally (normal fan speed, etc.), but I'm unable to tell whether anything is booting as nothing shows on the screen (whether it's through DVI, HDMI, or VGA). There are no beeps or any other odd sounds coming from the motherboard, and I have made sure the card is connected to the power supply. With the old card back in, we get a normal boot-up.
I've looked around on the internet and I've seen the blame passed around to pretty much every component, so does anyone here have an idea of what could be wrong? Thanks.
Note: this is a fairly old (5-6 years) system - could it be that the motherboard/CPU (Intel Pentium D 940) just doesn't know how to play nice?
