Windows 7: Nvidia Optimus- GPU switching problem

Less than "Optimu(m)s"

Hi Guys,

I felt I should register just to post this as I have spent an entire afternoon trying to get and ASUS K53SC i7 to switch to the Nvidia GPU (Geforce GT 520MX) when playing games / Nvidia Demos.

After reading the above posts I decided to remove the Intel drivers (which at this time are the newest available) and let Win 8 just install what ever it wants as the Nvidia drivers (also the most up to date) support Optimus.

Win 8 1st just installed a Microsoft HD3000 driver and then a few seconds later got a new driver, see below:

Intel with driver date 2012-12-12

Since then Optimus has been switching to the Nvidia GPU as it is supposed to.

I suggest try this and see if does not fix the issue for you.

I tested this by enabling the " Display GPU activity...." setting under "Desktop" in the NVIDIA control panel. This allows you to see how many apps and which apps are using the Nvidia GPU.

I then ran the Nvidia Heaven Benchmark as well as Stone Giant (not full screen so that I can see the taskbar) and the GPU Activity indicator then shows 1 App running.

Best of luck...

quick question about NVIDIA optimus
I have a quick question to the NVIDIA optimus gang! I know (now!) that the workaround is to underclock. My problem is that these settings aren't being respected, the GPU reverts to 672 and NVIDIA (or sometimes Intel) service stops and restarts... system is unstable (and can crash) until...
