Nvidia Geforce 8800m gts keeps getting code 43

So before I go any further with this please let it be known right now that I am not computer savy at all, my knowledge about them is very limited. So if anyone can help me, youre gonna have to explain in simpliest terms. Almost like you were explaining to a kid, lol. Anyways here goes...

First let me start off that I have never had any problems with my laptop. But back in January I was playing World of Warcraft when my screen froze and it turned to nothing but tiny pixels of purple, green and blue. I couldnt get it to respond so I just had to shut it down.

When I turned it back on my screen resolution was set to the minimum. When I checked my device manager it said my video card had a code 43(hence why Im here). I started looking for advice on the internet of what I should do and found someone that had the exact same laptop, was playing WoW in January after the expanision came out and the samething happened to him.

Ever since then my screen has little faint white lines running through it. When I restart it there are screen lines that run vertically through the Windows loading screen. Sometimes they flicker during the loading screen sometimes they dont.

Well I tired updating the drivers for my video card but nothing has seemed to work, so Ive kinda left it alone. Ive been bummed that its become a paper weight but I kinda just said to myself its jacked and I had left it alone until yesterday.

For some reason I decided to give it another try to see if there was something I could do to get it working. So I did a google search "how to fix a code 43" and came across an article with some suggestions. In the article it had mention try uninstalling the usb universal host controllers and restarting it because it would reinstall the drivers when I turned it back on. To my surprise it worked, my graphics card was back on! But for some reason the my bluetooth was now getting a code 10.

So I reinstalled Starcraft 2 with all the updates, reinstalled my naga razer mouse and everything was good to go. I got to the the menu screen for starcraft 2 and went into the options menu to look at the video settings. Everything was working great. I walked out the room to check on something in the kitchen and when I returned the screen was black with the thick vertical green lines running through it and not responding. So I had to shut it down.

When I turned it back it on it says my graphics card now had a code 39 and under usb controllers it says I have an unknown device even though I have nothing plugged in. I dont know anymore. Should I say screw it or what? If anyone could offer advice PLEASE do.

When you updated your graphics driver, did you use a download from the Gateway website, or directly from nVidia?

That problem can be caused by running incompatible drivers, and today some laptops must use only the graphics driver package from the laptop manufacturer's website due to the "switchable graphics" feature available with newer systems.

Uuuugggghhhh I go to Gateway and there website is a joke, not even sure what I should be looking for there. I looked up my model on the search and I didnt see anything. Sadly when all this started and I contacted their customer support on the phone I found out that job has been outsourced and I was routed to someone in India I couldnt uderstand. It kinda sucks to be me I suppose, lol. Anyways thanks for the help

Gateway P-6860FX. The thing Im worried about is that when I started having issues with it I was running Windows Vista 64. I took it to a repair guy and he took Vista off and put on Windows 7 x64, because he said it is better. Im worried because I dont think anything Gateway has for my laptop wont work with Windows 7. But honestly I dont see how things could get much worse.

You're right. No support for 64 bit drivers for that laptop. And no nVidia driver, only intel. They do suck.

When you tried to install nVidia drivers did you install this one (v270.61): NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.61 WHQL ?

Try this - a clean installation:

    • First, go to the nVidia website and download the most current known good driver for your graphics chip - 270.61.
    • Next, delete the driver folder containing the expanded driver files (i.e. C:\nVidia). If Windows finds the old driver files it may reinstall them.
    • Then go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program. Uninstall all the video apps (i.e.: nVidia 3D, PhysX) first, then uninstall the driver (the Control Panel will go with the driver). You will be asked to restart > restart.
    • When the computer reboots to the desktop Windows will install it's own generic WDDM1.1 driver and you will be asked to restart again. You must do so in order to install the new Drivers > Restart.
    • Once back on the desktop you can now install the new drivers from your download.

If you continue to have problems then it may be necessary to use DriverSweeper to remove all traces of any driver software from Safe Mode. Look up FROSTMOURNE's tutorial on installing drivers to get instructions on using DriverSweeper: Installing and updating drivers in 7

    Hope that Helps.
