Unplugged Second Monitor, Now ill Not detect.

    Hey guys,

I am using a dual monitor set up with a radeon 5870 graphics card. I am using a samsun 45 inch LCD TV, and an LG flatron w2286l. I have been using the two displays on/off or a year with out a problem. The TV is running through HDMI, and the monitor is DVI-D. Yesterday I had a friend come over with a lap top to play some DA II. We unplugged my monitor, and ran an HDMI cable to it, to the lap top. The monitor claimed it had a conection, but promptly went to sleep. We never could get the laptop to detect the monitor. I switched the monitor back to it's normal DVI-D cable, and low and behold, it is no longer detected by my machine. This is a major problem, as I only used the TV for movies, and the monitor for everything else. I have checked all my drivers, everything is up to date. Does anyone have any ideas on where to start trouble shooting?

    Thanks all for the help!

If only the TV is plugged in, it works normal as ever, and the monitor (now unplugged) changes from sleeping screen (when forced out of sleep by restarting or touching menu it says it is in power saving mode) to Check Signal Cable. The TV is plugged in directly from TV to video card with an HDMI cord.

Update: I barrowed another HDMI cable, and after switching the monitors source, it works as normal as ever. I wasn't actually suprised, as when it is plugged in through DVI, the monitor acts like it has a connection, but is not recieving a signal.I would like to not have to buy a HMDI cable simply to use my monitor... Any ideas on how to restore it's DVI capabilties?

if thats the case, its your ATI settings then, try resetting them, then starting again with them. its not physcially broke, so should simply be settings.

also just as an add-on i use ultramon to manage extra options for having my 2nd monitor

Sadly resetting my settings, and even reinstalling drivers/ catalyst has still left me in the same place. I guess i'l try that program you suggested, see if I can get any results.
