    DVI to VGA

My Graphics card has both a VGA and DVI port on it, and my monitor has only a VGA port, If I get a DVI to VGA cable and start using the DVI port on my GPU, will I see any change in the way things look on my screen?

Unfortunately not. They will look the same as if you went VGA to VGA. The adapter turns the digital (the D in DVI) signal to an analog signal used by VGA. In order to get the best picture out of your current setup, consider replacing your monitor with one that uses DVI. Otherwise, you will see no difference between using your VGA or your DVI port with an adapter.

    Thanks!

I read on other websites using Google that text is far more sharper when using the DVI.

"when using DVI". Exactly. You're using VGA. It has to start as DVI and end as DVI.

The DVI connector on your video card is a DVI-I. "I" meaning integrated, it has digital and analog signals. The DVI to VGA adapter just picks the analog signal off and feeds it to the correct pins on a VGA connector. Its the exact same signal that comes out of the VGA connector on the video card. In your case the only real reason to use the adapter is if you wanted to connect two VGA monitors to your video card.
