    display problems, please help

Hi guys, I am having a bit of trouble here. Everytime I try to run Rift, my computer display shuts off either instantly or after a few minutes, and then I am force to shut it down from the back, in which I then have to wait for awhile before I can turn my computer back on and get the display up and running again. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Is it my graphics card? Here it is, just incase it is it.

    ATI Radeon HD 4250

I also have 4 gigs of ram and 3 gigahertz quad core processor. Thanks for any help guys :)

edit: Now it keeps happening whether I run a game or not, I can simply be browsing or on here and it shuts off randomly :S I don't know what the problem is at all... All I know is before I tried running rift everything was working fine, please guys, I could really use some help :\

also, I just bought the computer two days ago... so I don't know what the problem is

Make sure you have the latest Display driver from the ATI Support Downloads webpage for your model.

    Try updating DirectX: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3

If this fails, try installing the game in the recommended Compatibility Mode

yeah, I've downloaded both the latest driver and direct x, im not to concerned about running the game anymore and more about keeping my computer up and running instead of constantly having to look at a blank screen :\

Sometimes it's the latest driver which is the problem, and is solved by choosing an earlier driver which is more stable for your system. Installing or uninstalling the full display software package can also help.

These can include the drivers given by optional Windows Updates, the Support Downloads webpage for your computer model or display model, or drivers stored and accessible via Device Manager>Device>Update Drivers>Browse>Choose.

Hmm, well I am relatively new to properly using computers, but I will try that. I was just going to reformat it, but I hope that works instead :)

Is there corruption or are their other issues which make you think reinstalling would help? Reinstalling can solve most problems, and gives a truly fresh start. Here's how to get a perfect reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

However first make sure it isn't a bad driver or logged issue which can be traced using Win7 troubleshooting steps

Thanks a lot for the help friend, I am currently installing an older driver to see if that keeps it alive, if not I will try the windows repair install and last but not least a clean install to see if that will finally solve my problem. If it persist, I guess I will have to take it back to the store and get my money back :\ Thank god for a seven day return policy:)

Well, it seems to be working fine so far. Though I am afraid to try the game and see if it works... Thanks again for the help :)

Did you build this yourself or buy it premade?
What is the wattage of your power supply?
