    Dual Monitor program launching

When i start a program on my computer on one monitor(the main) it starts the program in the second monitor.

    So my question is this.
Is there a way to tell windows which screen to launch the program into?

Thanks for any suggestions in advanced.

Welcome to Seven Forums viledecon. Generally it will open on the monitor it was closed on. Sometimes you can "train" a reluctant program by disabling the second monitor, and opening and closing the application on the 1st monitor a few times. A Guy

It's been my experience that most programs remember what monitor (screen position) they were last used on. If I close a program (open window) on my second monitor, it will open there the next time I launch it again. As A Guy suggested, move it to your main monitor before you close it, then see which monitor it opens on the next time you use it.

Some programs want to open on the primary screen all the time. I have one app, News Rover, that does that. It always sits on the left screen and I close it on the left screen and it always opens on the primary screen.
Ultramon can force a program to open on any of your screens.
you can download the trial and see if works for you,

Thank you all for the quick responses and suggestions.

A guy, i tried both of your methods and neither seemed to do me any good. i tried the second method three or four times for good measure and when i reactivated my extended monitor, it went back to what it was doing.

I should specify that this wasnt happening a few days ago and currently its only happening with firefox.

I also have this problem with a program called 3ds max but its a little different. In max, for those not familiar, there are windows that can be opened in it(as an example the curve editor, material panel ect.). when i open these windows it does one of two things. A. it opens the new window on the secondary monitor, or b. it opens them off screen and in which case i have to fudge around with the monitor position settings to get them visible.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

also, both monitors are connected to an Nvidia Geforce gtx 285. both monitors are plugged into dvi ports. main monitor is a 21 inch Samsung, and the secondary is a 22 inch hdtv Samsung. i dont know if this makes a difference.

    1. Open the application.
    2. Re-size the window so that it is not maximized or minimized.
    3. Move the window to the monitor you want it to open on by default.
    4. Close the application. Do not re-size prior to closing.
    5. Open the application.
It should open on the monitor you just moved it to and closed it on.
    6. Maximize the window.
