what about a ATI Radeon HD 5670?
Avoid that card at all cost, it is slower than the 4xxx series of cards. I know from experience.

Does your antivirus program have a resident scanner?
If so, temporarily disable it, to see if game play improves.
    i use Microsoft security essentials.
i dont scan anything while playing games.

5850 may be hard to find.

But the nvidia equivalent may be the .. GTX 460?
Its close, but the 5850 is slightly faster.

But being as these cards are in the $180-$190 range .. you may be just as well off getting the GTX 560 if you go Nvidia for the same price or close to.
it will depend on what brand name you want to go with.

    The 460 and 560 reccomend a 450W PSU with 24amps.
to be honest price wouldn't matter & all i want is a card that will be appropriate for my pc so no lame bottle necking happens you know.
i have a 480w PSU, but not sure about the amps

If price isnt much of a issue, between these 2, Id just look at the GTX560 then over the 460.

The 560 is the new generation of the 460. A bit faster.

the only 5xxx series cards worth getting are the 5850 and 5870.
Otherwise you might as well stick with what you have, the difference will barely be noticeable.
