directx features & Mediaportal/Windows Media Center

Hi guys,

I installed one of the drivers described above (have to check which one :) on a compaq N800C
I can use Mplayerc HC (EVR) /Media player to play videos without issues, but I can't get MediaPortal or Windows MEdia Center to start.
Both complain on the Directx or driver from the card. (32Mb).

Mediaportal is working on XP on that machine.

Dxdiag does not show any issues.

Can someone confirm they can or can not use the builtin mediacenter or mediaportal on a mobility 7500 ?

many thanks

Hi again,

tried different version listed above, some show in dxdiag d3D disabled, some show enabled, but still no Media Center or Media Portal

Any ideas?

I got Windows Media Center to work by tweaking the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Display Settings

Then Add 2 DWORD KEYS called DisableDxCheck and DisableDx9CapsCheck and set both their values to 1 and media center should start without problems

But it's slow.

So for MediaPortal I guess developers would need to help

for Mediaportal, I found out that they are loading big bitmaps into the GPU mem for the skins.
Using a 'low-mem' rescaled skin version , solved the issue !

Hey guys thanks for the read. I just installed the CX_30152 driver for my Compaq N610c with a Radeon 7500 and it seems to be working good so far. Now I just have to see if the onboard sound is possible :)

I had the same problem and resolved it by unchecking the Hardware Acceleration box in the flash player settings window when I right clicked on the video as it is playing.

XP, upgrading to Win 7

Is there some fiendish reason MS didn't address the Graphics Card/Driver Compadibility in the beginning?

Hey guys, great read and great info. I just installed win7 on my old Gateway 600ygr this week. I was able to download the drivers from Gateway's site and install by right-clicking and going to "Troubleshoot Compatibility" and running as WinXP SP2, and get the Control Panel installed. However, like someone else previously mentioned, it won't run and Windows gives some error about known issues. I have two questions I'm hoping someone might have an answer to:

1.) As far as the control panel goes, has anyone been able to get it working? Do you know of any other program I can use in its place. I have been using this PC in my bedroom plugged into my TV for the past few months, so I want to use the CP so that I can adjust some of the TV settings (mainly, the x,y coordinates).

2.) Does anyone have video playback in WMC (NOT Windows Media PLAYER, but Windows Media CENTER)? I can play videos fine in WMP but in WMC it says something isn't installed correctly and to restart WMC or Windows both of which do not help.

Thanks in advance for any help!

It might be that WMC wants more memory thatn the GPU has.
There is a registry tweak somewhere to make WMC use less mem.
I tried it on a compaq N800C, and it started. It was slooww though and gave up at the end, installing Mediaportal , again after having to tweak it to use a lower resolution skin...
Now I just use mediaplayer classic.
What I miss most is the ability to plya small Directx games, like crayon deluxe demo version, jsut will blue screen the PC, while it works under XP...
