There is a registry tweak somewhere to make WMC use less mem.
I tried it on a compaq N800C, and it started. It was slooww though and gave up at the end, installing Mediaportal , again after having to tweak it to use a lower resolution skin...
Now I just use mediaplayer classic.
What I miss most is the ability to plya small Directx games, like crayon deluxe demo version, jsut will blue screen the PC, while it works under XP...
I tried the registry tweaks that include DisableDxCheck and DisableDx9CapsCheck but those resulted in my WMC starting up with a black screen even though the sound is there. Hopefully this isn't a lost cause...

THanks Tilkov!

Here are the steps:

Download this driver: Free File Hosting Made Simple - MediaFire (modded Catalyst 6.2) and extract it to C:\. Go to Device Manager, then Update Driver on the VGA adapter -> Browse ... -> Let me pick ... -> Have disk ... -> Browse ... and open CX_30152.inf in 2KXP_INF folder of the extracted driver. Press Next, allow the driver to be installed and reboot.

Good luck!
Spent 2 days, 1st with Lenovo drivers, then with Omega drivers... Omega drivers worked but Blue screen on shutdown consistent...Also had the ATI control panel start issue (nuisance).... Followed your advice, downloaded, updated, and PERFECT! Was beginning to think my T42 bargain was going to be a disaster! Thanks! Paul

Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Professional and the Mobility 7500 Drivers.

Hi Gang.

I'm new to the forum, and wondered if I might be able to get a little help please.

I read a few pages back that one of the posters wldct7 managed to get the screen savers to work.

I can't get mine to work. in the screen saver window it shows a black empty window with white text stating that the D3D isn't available on the standard VGA driver etc.

Has anyone actualy managed to get these working etc. I can watch youtube videos, and I can play WMP files, but not at the best speed etc, but apart from this I am quite impressed and happy with Win 7 Pro.

I have a Compaq Evo N620c Laptop with the SoundMAX card, and of course the ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 Graphics Card.

Any hints and help would be most welcome.

Thanks very much.

PS if you can give any help or tips, please imaging you are talking to a novice, this way I should be able to follow any instructions etc.

Thanks again.

win7 or not win7...

Hi everyone,

Have been rooling around these topic and so far, after trying every single driver and suggestion, the best I was able to do is with the CX30152 driver (a 2006 driver - have you found one that's more recent?).

With it, my laptop has a 1.9 classification for the AERO tests and 1.0 for 3D graphics tests.

I wouldn't care less if I was able to see the video clips in full screen, but I can't! not wihout converting my processor into a toaster. You tube normal display already boosts my processor to max power. when I ask for full screen the display goes crazy! If I press ESC to go back it becomes ok again without crashes... When I disable the hardware acceleration (while playing on youtube - Adobe flash palyer 10), it works fine, but's always boosting the processor to max power). Some video clips in avi do the same, but not all (I use Klite codecs and classic media player).

All in all, altough it's working (more or less), I don't know if I'll stick with it or simply "downgrade" back to XP. The processor is boiling just for a better look?!? (I mean, I think Win7 is an improvement, but only if you can take the profit of it all. Otherwize it's just for the look...) that makes no sense.

ATI seems to have forgoten these "old" cards (witch used to be "top of the line") and unless we happen to find another one with the same chipset, I don't think we'll have a chance to ever see a proper driver for win7...

My suggestion is: next time you buy a computer remember those "sweet guys" from ATI and all the other companies that forgot you ;-)

hi Nismo, which laptop do you have a N800C too?
which version of the drivers are you using?

=> Edit: got it working now, used the Vista 32 bits driver
while this one is not so keen on video, seems ok in games

what's the result with the win7 preformance?

Hi Migube,

What's the result with the win7 performance? I'm particularly interested in raising my 1.0 score in the 3d graphics...
I downloaded your driver but couldn't find the inf file nor did I try to install it (mine is stable enough, so...).

Windows 7

Hi Nismo2005,

I had the same problem myself with the fullscreen videos. Managed to work around it, by clicking in the video with the right button of the mouse and unsellecting the "video acceleration by hardware" or something.

Now I can open it in fullscreen, but avoid using it to much because it's using the main processor instead of the graphics processor. If you don't take care or your processors fan isn't clean enough to refresh it, it'll burn... Nevertheless, it works!

on the other hand, I still think I rather use the old xp in this laptop. At least, until someone finds a true 7 driver for this card that allows the 3d graphics card to work properly as it does with xp... My laptop will thank it.
It's a shame, though cause it is definitely proven that it works perfectly in every way but the video card (due to the lack of a proper driver)...

Windows 7

Hi Nismo,

I'm afraid of that too... That's why I'm considering going back to the "old" xp... Unfortunatelly those that sold our laptops don't really care about them anymore... even if they're not so old or have the right performance. that's that...
Nevertheless, I keep hoping some stubborn geek with better knowledge than us, can work around this and write a driver from parts of new drivers combined with the old xp driver... (can't really say if this is an easy thing to do or not, but it sure would be nice if someone did it...).
I'll keep on "listening" this forum and hoping it comes true. I suggest you do the same. In the mean time, I'll try to find some courage to go back to the old xp and save my processor from burning like hell...
