    1152x864 not supported?

I've just recently switched over from Windows XP to Windows 7. Everything works fine, except that 1152x864 resolution doesn't seem to be supported. It worked fine on Windows XP, but on Windows 7 I get black bars on the top and botton of my screen, and everything is blurry. Lower resolutions, like 1024x768 work fine. After tinkering in Nvidia Control Panel a bit, I found out, that setting custom resolution 1152x924 gets rid of the black bars, but everything is still blurred. I have the newest Nvidia drivers, all windows updates are installed, including the optional ones. Changing the resolution from either Nvidia Control Panel or Windows Control Panel gives me the same results.

    My system specs:
    Windows 7 Professional x64
    GPU: Gainward Geforce 9800 gtx+
    Monitor (4:3): LG Flatron M1721A

Is there anything I can do about this? Thank you in advance for any help.

All that I can suggest is installing the monitor drivers, available from:

    LG Product Support for M1721A#

According to the specs in the manual there, it's not a 4:3 monitor. Its native resolution is 1280X1024 (5:4). Have you tried that resolution? LCDs tend to be sharpest at their native resolutions, although some wotk well at lower resolutions.

Assuming that you have the latest WHQL drivers (275.33), do you have the scaling set to "display" or "GPU"? (Display is the default.)

Hmm, I was sure it was 4:3 screen, since it supports other 4:3 like 1024x768. Anyway, the monitor drivers were up to date as well. The scaling in Nvidia CP is set to "display".

Also, yes, I have tried 1280X1024 resolution, but I find the text a little bit too small to read sometimes, 1152x864 is much more comfortable to me.

What I don't understand though, is why doesn't the 1152x864 resolution work on Windows 7, while it worked on 10 years old Windows XP, along with other 4:3 resolutions? There must be some way to get it working, but I am all out of ideas.

Have you tried leaving at the default 1280x1024 and increasing the DPI setting?

Oh yes, I've tried that. The thing is - DPI settings other than the default one are buggy. They casue buttons in some programs cover the text, even in Microsofts dxdiag tool some of the interface elements don't fit into the window anymore.

Try GPU scaling. I'm not particularly hopeful, though.

Graphics for Windows 7 seem to be a bit different. For example: if I'm running the monitor at its native resolution, I have been unable to get displays at other resolutions to scale properly. (If I'm using a low resolution, scaling works as expected.) I'd blame nVidia's drivers, but ATI drivers did the same. If I've ever read an explanation, I don't recall it.

4:3 displays on my monitor as well. However, my native resolution is 1920X1200 (16:10 ratio), so 4:3 images are badly stretched. They'd be slightly compressed laterally on a 5:4 display, but perhaps it's not that noticeable.
