    I have pre-ordered windows 7 Home Premium.

    My specs are as follows:

    AMD Sempron 3000+ processor 1.80GHz

    2GB RAM

GE FORCE FX 5500 256mb ATP Graphics Card

I have done the windows 7 upgrade advisor and it says I meet all the requirements.

I am curretnly running windows xp, and it is working good.

Will Windows 7 be slower than xp, if so by how much?
I don't want to get windows 7 and realise that it hogs cpu and ram memory.

Do you think I need to upgrade my graphics card, if so which one, I am currently looking at

    SAPPHIRE 100175L Radeon X1650PRO 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

I am really conufsed, please help.

you have nothing to worry about. i have a dell dimension3000 running with a 256mb geforcefx 5500 pci card i also have 1 g of mem. runs smoothly. so in saying that...W7 will run very good . better than xp, but thats my opinion. am running W7 rc1 on it. it also runs faster than xp on this machine. it just does....when the retail comes out i will run it on my main comp and it's got an HIS RadeonHD 3650 512mbddr2 Ram agp.hdmi

2 GB RAM, yeah you'll be fine. You could upgrade the GPU, but I don't think it'll matter any, unless you just want DX10 (If you got an AGP HD 3850) capability.

1650 would be better than the 5500
    1650 is DX9.0c
    5500 is DX9.0b

3850 is the best you can get
