    Planning on an upgrade

    Hello,

Since I've managed to rake in some extra cash I've been planning on an upgrade from my old nVIDIA 9800GT to a GTX460, to accompany my purchase of Battlefield 3, and I also tend to PC game a lot. Unfortunately, I'm not as familiar with a computer as most of you may be, so I was wondering if you guys can help me out and tell me if my PC could handle the upgrade, and if not give me a list of parts I might need to boost before investing in a graphics card..

I did read the thread at the top of the board about upgrading your graphics card, however I was still confused on what I should do..

I'm pretty sure I got down most, if not all of my system specs in my profile..But just in case I'm missing something, I'll provide you with a link to the computer model I purchased (Gamer Xtreme 1030) below...

    Newegg.com - CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme 1030 Desktop PC Intel Core i5 750(2.66GHz) 4GB DDR3 500GB HDD Capacity NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

(Specs can be found in the DETAILS tab)

This is the exact card I would like to purchase - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Your assistance will be very much appreciated! :)

P.S: If more information on my system is required (IE: My Power Supply), please let me know.

    Kind Regards,
    Josh

I have been running that card in my machine for a bit over 6 months now. I can tell you that it will run Crysis 2 in DX9 mode on ULTRA settings @ 1920x1080. I can also tell you that it will not run Crysis 2 in DX11 mode on ULTRA settings @ 1920x1080.

You will also want to make sure that you have a very clean PS that is at least a 650w.

Look at my comp specs to get an idea of what I am running.

Thank you for your reply! :)

As far as I know, my computer will be able to handle this card. I have a 700W PSU, I think I just need to buy one (or two??) 6-Pin power connectors..

How many 12v rails does that PSU have, better still, how many 12v rails does it have?

I'm not sure, right now my PC is getting fixed thanks to a failed disc recovery attempt, but I'll try to get back to you on that later today.

Let that be a lesson to you, Josh, never post on a forum with one eye opened and the other closed -- you end up in a world of redundancy and repetition.

This is one for The Department of Redundancy Department.

I reckon you meant 5V rails? I think there is only one...maybe.

No I meant 12, just not as many times as I stated it.

I ask because he mentions having to purchase one or two PCI-E adapters, and I wouldn't want him to overload the unit with something it can't quite cope with.

I would think from the name of the P.C. Cyberpower "Gamer Xtreme" That the 700w PSU would already have a couple PCI-e 6 pin connectors. And 700 watts should be more than enough, but the amps on the 12v rail(s) is what really matters.
Since the details page shows 2 expansion slots for the PCI-e x16 cards you would think they would have planned ahead for upgrades.
Once you get your system back let us know the manufacture .and we can lookup the specs.
    Thanks Fabe
