    Hd 6990 mia?

I just went looking for a 6990 to see if the price dropped on them any. I was surprised to see that the highest card offered on newegg is now the 6970 which is what I already have.

I looked some more on google and I am not able to find any new 6990 cards. Did they get pulled off the market already?

Does anyone have any info on the card and/or what happened with it?

AMD makes a limited run of there highest graphic card. So in short once there gone thats it. However soon the 6970x2 will be out which will be more powerful. I think the new 6850x2 are out now but that is the lower end. Its above a 6970 but below a 6990. Overall the 6970x2 (when released) will be the most powerfull card on the market... for a short time. The 7xxx AMD series is coming out this fall so... you should wait at this point.

BTW the x2 means that there are 2 gpu's on the same card.

    Here's one:

    Amazon.com: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD6990 4 GB DDR5 DVI/4x Mini DisplayPort PCI-Express Video Card (GV-R699D5-4GD-B): Electronics

I wouldn't consider it as beeing in stock, though; it's listed as "Usually ships within 1 to 2 months" (italics mine).

The price may never drop, as it's not exactly a mass-market card.

Yeah I guess I will be waiting. Maybe I will wait for the first run of 7xxx series with dual gpu.

I am just looking for something capable of handling large scale 3d rendering with reasonable speeds.

Both high end Amd and Nivida cards are in short supply (and they say PC gaming is dead).....All I can suggest is watch the egg like a hawk
