    Bob,

Have you already tried using the Vista ATI drivers in Windows 7 using Compatibility Mode with Vista selected?
Good thought Brink...But the answer is no, I didn't think of that...

I have to admit, I was getting a little frustrated at the time...

So I managed it, but only the driver no CCC. BTW, install in Vista compatibility mode and run as Administrator both do not work. To sum it all up:

    (0) Use the most recent driver (see first post)

    From PatrickC

There has been some traffic, in this forum, about the ATI drivers referenced in this post, that don't completely install. I have a HP Laptop dv5-1125nr with Radeon HD 3200 graphics.
    (1) I tried installing the ATI beta drivers referenced in the post.
    (2) The install hangs.
    (3) Used windows Task Manager to stop the install.
    (4) Went to the Device Manager.
    (5) Found Display icon.
    (6) Found and highlighted the installed Microsoft driver.
    (7) Right-click, selected update the driver,
    (8) When the option to give a driver for install came up,...
Point (2): My install hanged at "Enumerating source media for installable packages" within "Analyze" step after selecting custom install (see system specs for details on used hardware)
    (9) Click "Browse my computer for driver software"
    (10) Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
    (11) Click "Have Disk..." and "Browse..." to this folder (path may differ based upon your extraction location at ATI installer): C:\ATI\beta_w7-64_8-56-1-081203a-74289\Packages\Drivers\LH6A_INF\CH_73489 (from PatrickC)
    (12) Select "CH_73489.inf" and click "Open"
    (13) Select your driver, for example "ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (Engineering Sample - WDDM v1.1)" (mine)
    (14) Install it and acknoledge microsoft warning (driver is signed though)

Well, I re-runned the WEI but no change, but it looks like window management just got a tickle smoother. Bad to have no CCC but a newer driver may makes this installation issue obsolete.

PS: Many thanks and and my kodus to PatrickC, now my Win7 is driver complete

    I have a FIX.

FIRST EXIT CATALYST CONTROL CENTER THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!

    1. Goto device manager and uninstall and delete driver software for your graphics cards.

    2. Ignore restart and run this program. See File attached

    3. Go to Program files and delete the ATI folders. Even ATI technologies if present. IF ON X64 CHECK THE Program Files (X86) FOLDER TOO!!

    4. Restart computer and install new ATI drivers.

    ATI HD4870X2 will not work

I downloaded both the preview and beta drivers for Windows7. Both will install, but neither will work.

    Operating Windows7 64bit(build 7000)

The installation completes successfully according to the installation logs, but on re-IPL I always get "No ATI Driver installed, or working properly ......." CCC will not run, either from the right click mouse option, or from the Windows "start/all programmes". Checking the Hardware Profile my graphics card is listed and states that it is working okay. But when I try to change the screen resolution, it only gives me 1600x1200(on a 26" monitor), and 1900X1440(on a 30"), and the driver in use is VgaSave.

I haven't tried the Vista driver in "compatibility mode" yet, next option to try. But this card operates fine with Mandriva2009 PWP 64bit out of the box.

Not off to a very auspicious start

I haven't tried to install the beta drivers. However, I downloaded and installed Vista x64 drivers/CCC for my HD 4850 and everything works perfectly. I didn't use compatibility mode either.

I installed this new driver but now my games don't work and pages scroll funny, just want to go back to the old driver but the roll back driver option is grayed out.
I tried to install the original from my driver disc that came with my computer but it just says I allready have the newest driver.
Also downloaded the Vista driver from ATI but tried to intall 5 times and just locks at same place during install!
    Any ideas?

Exactly follow my info above and point to your win driver instead. This should work even if windows says you have the newest driver.

Heya peoples:) Aside from the CCC installation problems I have been pretty impressed with the overall performance that Windows 7 is providing. I have an AMD Spider platform and was convinced that some of my games and the AMD Froblins tech demo were not working due to the "Prerelease WDDM 1.1" driver for my 4870. I am happy to say that this was in fact a DirectX issue. Since running a copy of DXSETUP, included in the Tomb Raider: Underworld Demo, every game I had installed prior to upgrading to Windows 7 is now working

    Peace

    HD4870X2- no crossfire

I am having a similar problem with the driver install. I hang at the "Enumerating....." I can get the driver installed by the method outlined here, but the Catalyst app. is not installed and my HD4870X2 is running only one chip; no crossfire. I cannot install Catalyst at all. Vista or otherwise.

Any ideas on getting Catalyst application installed?

    Thanks
