I see what you mean now. From your earlier description I thought you meant sata cables that connected to the card itself. I couldn't see how that worked...

You could probably get away with 'flattening' the lower port cables between the card and mobo and then looping the top two over the card itself. or just loop all of them over the top. It may require a bit of jiggery-pokery but it could be done. It's probably less of hassle than you think.

Ya I might still try it maybe use the 90 degree angle end sata cable also might help. Thanks for the info I am going to have to reinstall the 9.5 drivers getting black screens or driver failure errors when I switch from full screen to minimize in Media center.

90 degree cables might be a good idea.

As for CAT 9.5, I actually went back to 9.4 because it was giving me BSOD. However it may just be my setup that's not playing nice with these drivers.

Nice system spec. I build my own also, I have three I put together over the years with, the media one is the one i am playing with the most, my other two are with Vista Ultimate and Business for the wife and the other i do all my house bills etc. I put one together for my bro-in-law with the P5K also with a 3 gig cpu. Like to try the crossfire with the 2 HD2600XT cards. Maybe when my back in feeling better, I will give it another look.I am getting the free copy of Windows 7 for being a feedback tester and I hope they offer the 64 bit version, which I think I am goingt to try since I now have 4 gig of ram in this system. I am also thinking of the 4870 ATI card instead of the 3870.

Thanks mate. This has been my first 'complete' build and I'm hooked. The only downside is the $$$ aspect

That's a bit of a windfall getting a free copy of Seven :)

The 4870 is still a great card, but if the budget allows, have you considered a 4890?

    Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks better today on top of the back issue we just added to our family a 12 wk old Border Collie and she is a spitfire, , on another note got the 9.5 CCC and drivers to install properly. Thanks for the recommendation on the cards a little taped out right now but the 4890 I think is the way to go myself in the long run. Have a nice day.

Well I tried the "fix" posted in the below link, and still no CCC, and now everything runs like total garbage, games lag consistently, and the FPS is shown in the top right corner etc. I even tried finding the 9.4 drivers with no avail because apparently AMD doesn't have a readily accessible place to download previous drivers. Does anyone have a solution to this?

EDIT: I managed to actually get 9.5 installed with CCC now... I had to mod the drivers with the program linked below and wow it finally shows up in the list to install. It's now there and functioning however I still have the FPS showing in the top right corner on all 3d rendered screens even the test stuff in CCC and can't seem to find how to turn it off.

EDIT 2: I resolved the FPS showing issue by downloading ATI Tray Tools found in the link below.

I really hope this helps other people having issues. Everything is now running great thanks to third party programs.

I found that the built-in Windows7 driver for my ATi HD4850 gave me better performance than Catalyst 9.4... might try 9.5, I'm more interested in it for PowerPlay power savings and temperature reductions :)
(having said that, I don't know if Aero constitutes as 3D or 2D mode...)
