Thank you for the warm welcome!

I have one question: Where exactly do I download that version?

You can get it from here if you want. Great place to find older versions of clean software. Just click on the 32 or 64 bit Vista (same for Windows 7) link there, and older versions will be at the top right there.

When I try to install the older versions, it says my driver is already up to date and it's not working with the aero theme properly.

EDIT: Also, the latest display driver for ATI is Radeon™ display driver 8.632. The one I have right now is 8.452 and when I open up the newest version(9.7), it says I have the latest version which is 8.452

If you notice the ATI folder at the root of C enter that and into the "support" folder. Once inside that you will see the sub folders for the one or more catalyts versions you have installed so far and can use the setup.exe file there to select the uninstall option.

Just be tha sub folder is the last and latest you installed when using that version's setup file to insure everything is removed properly first before going for the 9.6.

You might also try using this to uninstall any leftovers after you use the catalyst uninstaller. Follow the instructions on their page though carefully. After you've done that, turn it off and you might check and make sure you card is properly seated in it's slot inside your comp, maybe take it out and re insert it.

Download the 9.7 (cuz that still might not be your problem, just being the 9.7), unblock the setup in it's properties, Run it as an administrator, and tell us if you had any luck. And fill out your system specs for your profile.

Okay, I have just done that and it still does not detect my display driver. It says to install the catalyst control center and the other stuff, but it does not say anything about the display driver. I tried this in both 9.6 and 9.7.

You tried all of that? Used Driversweeper, Checked the card, removed and re seated it? Made sure everything is connected and seated properly? Sorry, have to ask simple questions to rule them out. Have you tried just downloading the Display driver from AMD and installing that as admin? You haven't filled out your system specs so no one knows what kind of hardware you have or if you're running x86 or x64.

Yes, I have done all of that. I have just done it again to double check and it still does not work. There's one thing I need to ask, does it matter if it's sapphire or not? Mine is the sapphire version.

Also, I'm running on an x86, intel pentium 4 3.0ghz, 2gb ram with an asus p4s800 mobo.

Once you have the drivers off make sure to restart the system. Windows should then prompt you with the "new hardware found, installing drivers" message upon a fresh detection of the card. This will insure all previous drivers are unloaded.

The brand of card won't matter since the drivers are for the ATI chip itself.

I have done all of that and there's nothing that pops up about saying new hardware found. It detects my display driver as the standard vga one.

Instead of driver breaker, how about DRIVER DOMINATOR ?, I got Catalyst 9.4 installed! IN YOUR FACE ATI!

In the end I got it by doing an express install where catalyst installed, but the drivers didn't. Catalyst then informed me it was incompatible with the current drivers.

    NEXT:

Device manager > Display adapters > update driver software.

    THEN:

Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer > Have disk

    Then pointed it to:

    C:\ATI\Support\9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd_ccc_wdm_enu\Driver\Packages\Drivers\Display\LH6A_INF.CH_78303.inf

It installed and one re-boot later it's done with crossfire re-enabled :)

The small step I missed was the "have disk". I was just pointing to the folder itself. My fault for following a bad direction on the amd forums
