Not at all! Like I was mentioning I've been rather fortunate with those of not running into the problems except for the original Cat version the card came with on the software cd when setting it up.

Most of the time I could use something like that when some other addon device or new program runs into something however. But that's also when the Regseeker program comes in handy there where you can specify one particular driver to be removed. The fun part is when manually editing the registry takes place!

lol, registry editing can be a pita :)

The more I think about it, the more I recall having virtually no issues when I was running a single 4850. The fun and games seemed to increase exponentially installation wise when installing certain versions when crossfired.

The end end result however is that there is more than one way to skin a Cat!

    (pun intended )

    Me owwww!

At least with the Catalyst or the other guy's software you know where to look when going into the registry. Some of these other off name 3rd party utilities and other things however can get a little tedious at time trying to track everything down.

The software side is where all that starts while the drivers end up generally in the system32(or x64 while still seeing the same name) folder. The ATI folder sits on C while others tend to bury things in the users as well as Program Files directories as well as in the registry itself.

Yep, ATI is relatively easy to track down unlike some who hide in program files, program files (x86) users documents, appdata, public folders, programdata and the forever pleasant multiple locations in all of the above

..and the odd few who hide in some obscure folder within the windows directory itself

I've run into that one enough times where no matter where you looked you could never find everything when removing some program. Stubborn and aggravating at times!

Those are times when you need more then a simple driver cleaning tool. How about a new hard drive?!

With the catalyst as well as other device driver installer/removers included in the setup program those generally work well for removal while often the problem is getting Windows to make the drivers active when installing!

The catalyst is or was known for the MOM implementation error when previously lacking NetFramework 2.0 on XP and even at times on Vista. In almost six months time not once on 7 from beta to RC!

    Failure

I tried downloading Catalyst Software Suite 9.7 and modding that with the Mobility Modder. Everything installed just fine, but then failed. It ended up in a not-working graphics driver and ( I suppose because of that ) CCC wouldn't start.

Now I intend to download an earlier version of the Catalyst Software Suite and modding that. So, does anybody know which version I should try? It's probably got to have support for the Radeon X -series. And maybe not. What about trying the earliest version known to work on 7? And which is that?

Thankful for the help so far!
