I have a sapphire 4850 X2 snd the drivers still don't work for me either, dismantled my system, re-installed everything new and tried a number of tips from this site and this card still doesn't work. I've emailed the support people from amd, ati and sapphire and got no answer. They must know something. I replaced my ati card with an nvidia which works fine only because I couldn't get anything done. I'm running a $250 card now which is a step down from my $350 card and doesn't have all the features of the card that works........Anyone who has an answer I'm willing to try. crossfire is off and only running one card

Unfortunately crossfire is still flaky at best on x64 in both Vista and Seven.

Spoke to one of the "sales people" at the local computer store and he has 2 4870 x2 crossfire enabled, he said that he didn't have a problem with the cards or the drivers, he installed and the built in drivers picked up the two cards and everything works fine..........taked with a grain of salt.......could have been trying to sell another card, the fact that he was running $1000.00 worth of cards could have had something to do with it and he was only running 4 gigs of ram may have had something to do with it, (tryed that) anyway, I would like to think it's a driver and I can expect things to be fixed, rather than a hardware conflict and it will take switching mobo, ram and it will be expensive. Just to let you know, take it for what its worth, if you have any other reports along these lines please post. I may have to look at other fixes

lol, he's runs $1000 worth of cards, yet he lets windows choose his drivers for him.... I would have stopped listening to him there

Did he mention whether it was XP or Vista, x32 or x64? Did he also mention what games he's tried? Some games simply don't play nice with xfire, or SLI for that matter.

It's definitely a driver issue. The last known 'working' xfire release was Catalyst 8.10 . From 8.11 onwards is where it gets flaky. The downside to the older drivers is that you'll miss out on quite a few game optimizations. Apparently 8.10 was also that last driver release to show the crossfire option in CCC. 8.11 onwards it's 'automatically enabled'.

Do both cards show up as installed in Device Manager? If not, try enabling the second card and see if it helps.

It's not necessarily a mobo issue, as a lot of people with a wide range of setups experience xfire problems.

Conversely, some people have zero issues with it

As a last ditch, not recommended method, try installing the x32 drivers. Some have claimed this has worked on x64 systems.

I am running two mobile 3870 CrossFireX in my notebook (alienware m17) and it just runs smooth! I have used nearly every driver avalible for W7 (even the vista ones from 8.10) and everytime no issus with Crossfire.

Í learned mutch about this topic and as smarteyeball said, take a look at Device Manager, there you should see "problems".

When you have a driver issu try to use the "update driver" normaly it sould load the newest ... but may be this won't help so try the 9.2 and 9.3 will work on W7 (non mobile cards) realy well :)

    Greetings

    Hello Ucraiova77,

You might see if this driver version for Vista will work for you instead. If you have problems installing it, then try installing it using Compatibility Mode on the driver installation file with Vista selected.

    ATI Catalyst Display Driver

    Hope this helps,

Ucraiova77, try the workaround I've found to be useful for me and others have too...on page 13 of this thread. I had the same exact symptoms as you trying to get 9.3 to install until I replaced the section of the .inf with what was in the 9.2 .inf.

I think the Mobility drivers are different? I'd recommend you download 9.3 and the 9.2 version of *your* driver and use those to do what I said.

P.M. me if you need instructions in greater detail.
