    Dualview/Extended Display Issues

I work at a retail store and we use 3M touch monitors for our main display with a Dell LCD for the secondary display which shows the customers order on the screen.

We have a couple of Windows 7 machines that give us issues. I recently switched one machine from an ELO touch monitor to a brand new 3M microtouch. The dualview worked before simply by using the "extend these displays", however, now when after switching monitors it will extend the display, but sometimes acts as Display 1. If I open a program it will open on the other screen.

We use a Geforce 5200 FX dual vga card. Nvidia doesn't support Dualview anymore and this card is outdated, but it was working with the other monitor. Is there a step I am missing? We are trying to use a monitor with an extended display showing the receipt order.

What I have noticed is, I don't have the option for "Extend my desktop to this display" I just have "Extend these displays"

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

normally the problem here lies with the option to extend the windows not being enabled but you have said that you have seen this. When looking at the screen resolution window click the button which say's 'Identify' this should display a number 1 and 2 on the screens. If you get this, at least you know windows has detected the other monitor and recognises its there. you can also drag the monitors and place them in the order you want for example you may want monitor 2 as your default. Have a play around and let me know how you get on. Hope this helps

It detects the second monitor as "1" also. It thinks they are the same. What other things can I do to get this to detect properly which will allow me to "Extend Desktop (1) onto this display?

    Thanks

Use the detect option instead. the screens will probably flicker or go black but they will come back to life. This should work, as I had a similar problem and this fixed it for me at work. If not I have some other methods and ways around but this is most definitely the easiest :)

I have tried detect, but after that it still won't identify it as a separate monitor. It shows that the Dell LCD is there (as monitor 2 in display properties), but when you use identify, the 1 appears on the Touchscreen when identifying monitor 1 or clicking monitor 2 and identifying. (if that makes sense).

If I set it up to be 1|2 Multiple Monitors, it just shows my main Touchscreen as
    1|2.

So for some reason it knows there is another monitor but it won't establish it as a secondary?

have you got the latest drivers for the fraphics card? are you using a splitter at the back to accomodate for dual screens? the only other thing you could do would to uninstall the drivers and then re-install then as fresh, that could reolve the matter. Another thing you could try is opening up device manager from the Control Panel, right clicking and select 'Check for hardware changes' and see if that resolves your problem. If you notice a yellow triangle under category 'Unknown devices' then let me know as that will be the cause of this problem. thanks

I got it to work now. I basically plugged in the first monitor and detected that, and then the second and detected that. I think resetting it to the original monitor seemed to refresh the settings and then it was able to pick up the secondary properly afterwards. The touch screen works on screen 1 and I can now see my receipt display on the second monitor.

It was strange though. I have set up many before and it is really never an issue. It was basically telling me the correct information as far as monitor models and display setup but it wasn't actually doing what it said.

    Thanks for everyone's help.
