    Choppy Windows in Windows 7?

    These are my computer specifications

    Intel Pentium e5200 @ 3.8HZ (380 X 10)
    Giga-byte GA-EP35-DS3L
    Mushkin 4GB DDR2 800 @ 760MHZ 4-4-3-10 @ +0.3v
    SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
    Seagate 160GB @ 7200rpm
    Corsair 520HX
    Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    Acer AL2216Wbd 22"

Now I don't know if it's just me but somehow when i close a window in Windows 7, it does not seem as smooth or as quick as it was when I was on Vista Ult SP1 x64.

Has anyone else noticed this? It looks so choppy when I close any open window. I mean, it's not like a big heavy chop.. but... ugh.. You guys know what I mean.. There's a difference! It's slower..

Why? Could this be a graphic driver issue? Or maybe it's just me? Is there a setting somewhere? It's so annoying sometimes. >.>

    Thanks in advance :)

Well I'm hoping it's graphic driver issue and ATI will fix it with 9.8..

I think there is a registry setting that controls the animation speed for stuff like that, I think there may be a tutorial for on this forum somewhere, I will have a look.

This is not the one I was talking about but it's worth a look anyway.

Those tips are pretty common and I have done them after initial install. I even disabled numerous amounts of services.

Probably just one or two features to remove like IE8, etc.

    Thank you, anyway.

I don't think it's a bug, it's just the way the animations are designed. I also noticed that Aero seems "sluggish" (compared to Vista) in Win7 when animations are enabled. I think they just added extra fade in/out effects that slow down the timing of windows opening/closing/maximizing, etc.

Win7 Aero isn't more taxing than Vista's, I don't think. It's just the extra eye candy takes a few milliseconds more to render.

Im also leaning towards the fact that this is a design feature.

Hey - I was getting this as well...and I thought I was seeing things.

I am running a eVGA 8600GTS and after the install completed...when I opened a window - I immediately noticed a secondary "chop" or "kick" a ms or two before the dialog was displayed. More on the "open" than on the close.

I updated the video driver but it made no difference - so I turned off the animations and thats cool for now.

Sure would like to know what the problem is.

    Cheers!

The most likely scenario is Windows 7 has conveniently preloaded into your precious RAM dozens of applications big and small it thinks you might use thus depriving you of RAM for a responsive UI experience. This is a common scenario, read the real life horror stories of everyday PC users here:
