Do you think it's related to the refresh rate?

Well, not necessarily, but in my case forcing the card's refresh rate to the native resfresh rate of the screen solved both the aero lag, and choppy video.

If your card's software can't set the refresh right, you might try powerstrip.
    (but be careful with it).

    Hi yetyhunter,

You could try disabling the animation effect all together.

    Maybe it's a RC1 problem.

    You could try the RTM

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate RC, and I am experiencing some dropped frames when minimizing and restoring windows using Aero.

Under Windows Vista Business, it was a very smooth operation. Now it appears like it's struggling a bit. The animation still happens pretty quickly, but the effect is nowhere near as smooth. It doesn't get in the way of productivity, it's just not aesthetically pleasing.

I have 2 GeForce 9500 GTs and Aero works fine under Vista on the same machine (the Vista OS resides on another partition). I'm not using SLI as my video cards run 3 separate screens. I haven't tried playing any graphics-intensives games yet, but I guess the next step is to install some and compare to Vista.

Either way, I have the latest updates from Microsoft and nVidia so according to Microsoft's marketing team this shouldn't behave like this.

    I found the culprit.

My HDTV was operating in 1080i at 29Hz. It shows up at 30Hz in the nVidia Control Panel, but not in the Windows Display properties where it comes up as 29Hz and refuses to let me change it to 30Hz even though it says it's a supported option.

Anyway, I set it to 720p at 60Hz and now there's no lagginess when minimizing, restoring or closing windows! The fact that it was 29Hz on the HDTV was affecting Aero across ALL THREE of my monitors under Windows 7.
