What connects to the projector if it has no d-sub, HDMI, or DVI? I've not found any USB connections which supply video.

    Sorry for the delay -

I have isolated the issue to the Dell U3011 monitor. I hooked up my old monitor (Dell W228) and everything worked normally - meaning, when I selected "extend these displays" the main monitor stayed as it was and the desktop was just extended over to monitor 2 - the projector in this case.
so there is something unique to the Dell U3011 - that I can't figure out yet.

Maybe defective monitor, even if it is new, not unheard of. Could also be whether you used d-sub or DVI to connect it to the pc, you could try whichever one you weren't using.
the specs for the adapter didn't list windows 7, but I would think it is compatible. Also no drivers that i saw. At least you are narrowing it down.
