I found out why I got this error. Not enough space on system harddrive It obviously need a lot of space to install. And how hard could it be to make the installer tell you that this is the reason it cannot install :/

This worked for me. Fewer steps and no other programs needed. Real stupid solution, but I hope it proves useful for someone. Log in as an adminstrator to your Windows 7 PC:

    1) Download driver program "285.62-notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql. exe" (obtained from Drivers - GeForce)
    2) Run to unpack files (default folder "C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\285.62\WinVista_Win7_64\ International")
    3) Fail initial installation, or cancel
    4) Go to Control Panel -> Device Manager
    5) Right-click your video card and click "Update Driver Software..."
    6) Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
    7) Browse to folder where you unpacked the files (ensure "Include subfolders" is checkmarked)
    8) Continue with install (may take a few minutes and screen may flicker during install)
    9) Restart your computer

    nvidia installation failing [SOLVED]
[QUOTE=dirtyfleece;1679790]I've been attempting to install the drivers for my new Nvidia GTX 460 today and haven't had any luck. Every time I run the installer it ends partway through the installation with the message: NVIDIA Installer failed
    NVIDIA Update -Not Installed
    PhysX System Software -Not Installed
3D Vision Controller Driver -Not Installed
    HD Audio Driver -Not Installed
    NVIDIA Control Panel -Failed
    Graphics Driver -Failed
    3D Vision Driver -Not Installed

i had this problem and fixing is is quite easy just open registry as an adminstarator and search for "nvidia", to search just press ctrl+f, delete all entries that you will find it might take a while but the most imporant are the ones written "nvidia.installer...." as soon as you do that it should install without any problem please reply if it works . you may ignore registry value that are nvidia audio thank . you
