abdullahtaha, welcome to the Seven Forums.

To answer your question, yes it will. PCI-E 2.1 is backwards compatible with 1.0. The card may not perform as fast as it is capable of (a few per cent, if that), but it will work just fine.

As far as the PSU goes, as long as it is a decent one and not some no-name one, it too will be fine.

I Just tried to install a 5570 on my DG31PR yesterday and it wouldn't post.
I then dropped the 5570 onto a newer GA-MA770-UD3 AM3 motherboard and it worked. So I tried it in an older 939 board and no post. So it appears that pcie 2.1 isnt always backwards compatible.

Cubicsilver, welcome to the Seven Forums.

It can also be caused by an incompatibility between the video card and the motherboard bios. As far as your motherboard goes, it supports PCI-E 2.0,

    Intel® Desktop Board DG31PR

I would make sure you have the latest bios for the motherboard as it is possible that there was a compatibility update along the way for it.

As for the old 939 board, if it is a bios compatibility issue then there is likely not much to do considering the age of it and all support for it was likely dropped a fair while ago.

You're right. I also tried a 6770 and 5450. Both failed to post. The DG31PR I have has the lastest bios. According to Saphire technical support, 2.1 is technically backwards compatible with 2.0, 1.1, and 1.0a, only if the motherboard bios has been updated to support it. So it looks like this motherboard does not support 2.1 cards.

However, I also tried a GTX 460 and it worked! (PCIE 2.0)
