Normal Boot on windows 7 does not work correctly, no error message.

Hey there folks.

I've been using the EAH5570 for a few months now, it's an excellent card for the price. But one day, after reinstalling the latest ATI Drivers (completely uninstalling everything first and clearing out the GAC files because I had the issue in which Catalyst Control Center wouldn't open) I've had this weird error.

First, I will go through all the bios stuff, white writing on a black screen, then I will get to the colourful windows logo.

^^ As seen in that picture. After that, it goes to a blank screen. I can hear the logon sound in my headset, so it's just not displaying it correctly. When I unplugged my 5570, and used the integrated GeForce 9200, it all works fine. I do not understand why this happens, and cannot explain the error much. It's just a blank screen, and I can see a white line down the right side of my monitor, and some mutli-coloured pixels at the top sometimes.. Also note that everything is in a weird resolution when booting up, even the white writing bios stuff...

Everything works fine with either card in safe mode.


I have windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, and I have the latest ATI drivers installed.


Again, to be clear..

I start up computer.
Go through all the white writing stuff, MS-DOS or whatever.
Get to the colourful windows logo bootup screen.
AFTER that screen, it goes black. I see a white line on the far right of my monitor, and sometimes I see multi-coloured pixels at the top of the screen. The bootup process is also in a weird resolution.

System restore isn't really an option as they've somehow been... Wiped?

Wow. It's hard to say what the true cause of this phenomenon is...the new drivers are an obvious suspect, but I wouldn't completely rule out some kind of hardware failure either.

I would recommend booting into Safe Mode and then removing the driver. Then reboot normally and let Windows reinstall its generic Radeon driver so you'll at least have your proper resolution and color depth back.

This will be a good moment to create a new System Restore point. After that, you may try the new ATI driver again, but if you run into the same problem afterward then you may have to go back to an older version instead.

The latest drivers don't always play nicely and it looks like that this the case in your situation.

I think I'd be inclined to unload this driver and try an earlier one. You did mention that everything is fine in Safe Mode, so it does point to a driver issue.

Will give it a go... Can you confirm you'll be around for a while? I've had no end of being abandoned on forums


I will go and try uninstalling drivers, etc.. I will be booting into safe mode with networking so I can still check this thread.

I'll be around on and off during the day, particularly when there's no football on Sky.

I've tried SFC, and I do not have a windows 7 CD to spare, it was pre-installed.. It shows me how incredibly useful a new windows 7 would be haha

I don't watch football, so definitely count on me.

Please do take a moment to create a system recovery disc in Windows as soon as you can. Then you'll be prepared in case you ever need it.

Even if you haven't got a Windows DVD, you can still create your own system repair disc.

Obviously, it won't re-install Windows for you, but it will help out with other issues such as a Startup Repair.

As you haven't got a Windows DVD, have you created recovery disc(s) for your computer?

I do have recovery disks.

I reinstalled the drivers, didn't work. Normal boot still doesn't work!
However this time, the screen was completely black, no line no pixels nothing. But otherwise same behaviour as usual. Now I have the card installed, on safe mode with networking. What next? I've tried using recovery disk, which I made a long time ago..
