or you could take out 2 sticks of RAM, had the very same issue, had to revert to 4GB from 8, not happy about that but hardly noticed any performance drops as i never play memory intensive games, give it a whirl :)

try the Ram, trust me, i made several threads with the issue, it just freezes for no reason but works flawlessly every other time, just pop out 2 sticks and go for a few hours, the reason(i learned) is that the RAM is dual channel and it's running in quad channel, your FSB cannot handle it.

Yeah but if you are running 4 sticks instead of two 4 gb's then that could be the problem especially if the ram is bad it will lock you everytime

I would hold off on it being the GPU and check all ram slots and ram to see if there is a currupt stick

If it was the GPU you would still hear the system boot even though the GPU is bad But that is some cases because that would defently mean driver issue booting but no screen

Ok, tried my four sticks in different slots on my board. I'm still freezing out after a few minutes. I've gotten my hands on another pci express cable for my PSU. im trying that instead of converter cables. Hopefully it's a power issue with the converters.


UPDATE: It caused me to BSOD properly this time. I'm currently in safe mode. Been in it for around 5 mins. So far so good!

try running the computer with 2 sticks of ram not 4 and see what happenes

If you really need to look on the QVL of your board and see if that ram is specified for that board if not return the ram and get compatible versions

But elimination process would be try each stick alone to see which one fails and then run Mem test for errors , you should be able to test the sticks in the Bios mem86 and will run and flag errors with ram

I would look at the hardware installed and see if it is running properly check all connections as well a device might not be in sync with the system that also will cause freezing

how much watts is the psu and the rail power

Nvidia cards take alot more juice then ATI you could be right but at the same time

It wouldnt get past post if it was the psu it would just turn on and be blank
