Graphics card drivers
Ok I got the daul boot system working. This is a home built PC. I now have another problem. I have an Asus M2A-VM motherboard. I have XP installed on one drive with a Visiontek 5450 Grapchics card. I used the drivers that came on the cd to install it in XP. All seem to be working fine. I rebooted into windows 7 & again used the visiontek cd to install the drivers for the visiontek 5450 on the windows 7 setup. Thats when all the problems started. My pc screen will go black & the only way I can get it back is to force reboot. I booted into safe mode & unistalled the visiontek card & drivers & the pc will boot up. At this point it will install a generic VGA driver & I can only use basic operations of the video card. If I try to reinstall the visiontek drivers I get the problems all over again. Some of the things it will do are I can not shut the pc down. When I hit the restart it will hang on the shutting down screen for 15 or 20 minutes & then go to the BSOD screen & will restart. & the device manager will show that the visiontek driver is installed & I am back to the same problem. As near as I can tell the visiontek drivers are not compatiable with my mother board? I have gone to the visiontek sight & tried at least 3 or 4 different drivers to no avail. I ran the windows 7 compatiablity program & it tells me that my system is compatiable. also according to visionteck this card is windows 7 compatiable. I for got to mention that once I remove the visiontek graphics card & drivers in the safemode my PC will shut down with no problems. I also called Asus & they tell me that my motherboard is windows 7 compatiable. I have not updated the bios since I got this board. Is it possiable this could be the problem? I am at my witts end & any help would be greatly appreciated.
